[edit] Synopsis

Spike is harassed by a young boy trying to become a knight. The Ponies help him to find a good deed that doesn't involve slaying their friend.

Squire Alonzo pursues Spike

The Earth Pony Jumping Finals are interrupted when Spike charges across the field, pursued by a young boy riding a camel and armed with a sword. After the Pegasus Ponies incapacitate the camel and Megan disarms the boy, he introduces himself as Squire Alonzo and explains that he must slay Spike as a good deed. The Little Ponies don't agree that Spike is evil, and he apologises, saying that his greatest dream is to become a knight, but his efforts to do good deeds always end in disaster. Spike decides to help Alonzo in his quest, and Megan, Gingerbread, Masquerade and Galaxy join them in search of a knightly deed.

Their search brings them to a castle surrounded by briars. Galaxy lights the way while Alonzo hacks his way through. Inside they find Sir Huguenot, the bravest knight of all time; his lady, Princess Aileen; Aileen's fairy godmother Emelita and Moffat, the wizard of court. Emelita chastises them for interrupting the wedding feast, as Sir Huguenot announces that he'll be retiring to settle down with Aileen. He gives Moffatt the task of searching for his replacement as a hero, and Alonzo says he'd do anything for the chance. Megan apologises for their intrusion and hastily leads Alonzo outside.

Despairing that he'll never be a knight, Alonzo throws his sword away, and is met with angry protest from someone he's hit. In the bushes he finds a huge turtle flipped over onto its back. He fashions a lever out of a rock and a branch to flip the turtle over, and it transforms into the wizard Moffat. He congratulates Alonzo on showing a knight's spirit, and announces he's taking him on as Sir Huguenot's replacement. Alonzo bids the Little Ponies farewell as Moffat magics him away to a new life of adventure.

[edit] Notes

  • Includes the song 'To Be A Knight'
  • The Dutch translation of the title is De Bijna Drakenridder.
  • If Shady is such a bad jumper, how come she wins the Earth Pony Jumping Finals?
  • Panza's hair changes color throughout the episode. Sometimes it is blond, sometimes it is red, and sometimes it is black, but it is supposed to be brown.
  • An odd voice comes out of Whizzer's mouth as she protests to Alonzo. It sounds like Cupcake's voice.
  • When Panza stops walking, the ground behind him continues to move.
  • When the ponies start out on their trek, it is daytime. Then it is night. Then it is daytime again. Then it is night. Then it remains daytime for the rest of the episode.
