Wormegay Castle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wormegay Castle is a motte and bailey earthwork, located next to the village of Wormegay in the English county of Norfolk.

The motte is visible as an earthen mound some 5 m high and 77 m by 62 m at the base. The motte is surrounded on three sides by a ditch 12-15 m wide and 2 m deep. The bailey adjoins the motte and is an enclosure 150 m by 88 m, raised about 1 m above ground level.

The castle was probably built by Hermer de Ferrers after the Norman Conquest.[1]
