Worm (breakdance move)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Worm is a move often associated with breakdancing and funk subculture in which the subject lies on the ground and forms a rippling motion through his body, creating a wave reminiscent of a worm crawling. This can be done in one of two ways, either forward or backwards, by shifting weight from the upper body to the lower body (backwards) or vice-versa for forwards.
Sophie Tucker is considered the creator of this move, which goes back to the 1920s. It was seen at some punk rock shows in the 1970s, was widely popularized during 1980s funk period, and continues to be associated with breakdancing. Since the move is very old and very well known, even by those outside the breaking community, it is generally only performed in jest rather than in serious dance battles.
Another form of the Worm was often performed at punk rock shows in the mid to late 1970s in which the performer lies on their back and wriggles their entire body chaotically.
Former WWE wrestler Scotty 2 Hotty popularized the Worm again in the early 2000's by performing it during his wrestling matches. He uses the Worm as a precursor to his finishing move (a falling throat chop). A Video Tutorial on How to Breakdance
