[edit] The Original Facet (Felucca)

Felucca is the original facet from when Ultima Online was first released on September 25, 1997 and was the only facet for over two and a half years. It was named Felucca only after the addition of the Trammel facet to help distinguish between the two. When Trammel was added to the game Felucca was transformed into a grimmer, more foreboding autumn-like environment to reflect the contrast in the differences in playstyle between the two facets. Gravestones, bones, and dead trees are a common sight in Felucca. It is governed by a rule set which allows non-consensual PvP and is faithful to the original rules of Ultima Online (although many things have changed).

The expansion Ultima Online: The Second Age (October 1, 1998) featured a new portion of the map called The Lost Lands. It featured forest, swamp, desert, and ice terrain with new, exotic animals. Also, two new towns Papua and Delucia, as well as new dungeons with new monsters were added. The land is commonly referred to by players as T2A, an abbreviation of the title of the expansion. The Lost Lands did not offer any new land for player housing.

[edit] Trammel

Trammel was introduced with the third expansion pack, Ultima Online: Renaissance (April 3, 2000) and became the second facet. Despite being a replica (many players use the word "mirrored" when referencing Trammel but it is in fact not a mirror image of the map) of the original facet, since its creation each facet has developed independently. It looks lively and spring-like. Two player demands were satisfied with the addition of Trammel: a rule set that does not allow non-consensual PVP, and additional open land for player housing. The Lost Lands was copied to Trammel along with the rest of the original land. Since then, it has been natural to associate the Trammel Lost Lands as part of the Trammel facet and the Felucca Lost Lands as part of the Felucca facet.

Trammel is named after one of the moons of Britannia.

[edit] Ilshenar

Ilshenar was added in the third expansion pack Ultima Online: Third Dawn (March 7, 2001). Ilshenar is made up of many dungeons and home to new monsters. Originally it was only accessible to those using the updated client that came with the expansion. Later, in the next expansion, Ultima Online: Lord Blackthorn's Revenge (February 24, 2002) Ilshenar was opened to those using the original client. Also, as part of the finale to events leading up to the Lord Blackthorn's Revenge, new land was added to Ilshenar.

[edit] Malas

Malas was added in the fifth expansion pack Ultima Online: Age of Shadows (February 28, 2003). It brought new landmass for housing, two new cities; Luna (known as the "City of Paladins") and Umbra (known as the "City of Necromancers"), and a new dungeon. Malas is composed of large land masses that appear to be floating in a starry void. Bridges connect these "islands" together.

[edit] Tokuno

Tokuno was added in the sixth expansion, Ultima Online: Samurai Empire (November 2, 2004). Tokuno is based on Feudal Japan. Tokuno is made up of three large islands and many smaller islands along the coast. There is a city, Zento, on the southern side of Makoto-Jima.

[edit] Post-Tokuno Lands

When Ultima Online: Mondain's Legacy (August 30, 2005) was released, additional dungeons and a city, named Heartwood, were added to the game. The entrances to these are all in existing facets so like the Lost Lands and the territory added to Ilshenar with Lord Blackthorn's Revenge these are not considered facets.

[edit] Future Lands

The upcoming expansion pack Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss will feature new lands but most likely not a new facet.

[edit] Free Shards
