[edit] Notable Moments

Notable moments from the championship include:

  • Andy Hicks reached the second round, beating Quinten Hann in a match memorable for a near punch-up between the two players at the end, triggered by Hicks pointing out to Hann that he was likely to drop out of the Top 16 as a result of the loss
  • Ronnie O'Sullivan's noted temperamental nature flared up, with numerous displays of anger and dismay at his performance in the first couple of rounds.
  • O'Sullivan's semi-final victory against Stephen Hendry became the biggest ever in the round when he won 17-4 (ironically it was Stephen Hendry who had held the previous record when he defeated Terry Griffiths 16-4 in the 1992 semi-final).
  • Graeme Dott raced into a 5-0 lead in the final. But O'Sullivan eventually won 18-8 - the fourth biggest margin of victory in a world final.
