[edit] Notable Moments

Notable moments from the championship include:

  • Ken Doherty recorded one of the greatest snooker comebacks of all time in his semi-final victory over Paul Hunter when he came from from 15-9 behind, after the 3rd session, to win 17-16 in the 4th and final session. Doherty finished the competition having played the most frames in a single world championship.
  • With his first round 147 against Marco Fu, Ronnie O'Sullivan became the first person to score two maximum breaks at the Crucible. He also became the first to actually lose the match.
  • Mark Williams came back from 0-2 down to win his second round match against Quinten Hann 13-2. Scoring 13 frames in a row remains the record for most frames won in a row in a single match.
  • Ken Doherty played the full 19 frames in the first round, the full 25 in the second round, 21 in the quarter final, the full 33 in the semi final and 34 in the final, to finish at a record 132 frames, just 5 short of the maximum 137.
  • John Higgins was white-washed 10-0 by Ken Doherty in their quarter final match. However he won 7 consecutive frames to make the score 10-7 before Doherty eventually won 13-8.
