[edit] The event

The 1990 Embassy World Snooker Championship took place at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield between 13 to 29 April 1990. The tournament saw the first world championship victory of Stephen Hendry, who beat Jimmy White 18-12 in the final. In so doing, Hendry became the youngest ever world champion at the age of 21.

[edit] Notable Moments

  • 1982 champion Alex Higgins returned to the Crucible after missing out the previous year, losing 5-10 to Steve James in the first round. After the match, Higgins assaulted an official and made rude remarks at the after-match press conference. As a result, he was fined, and banned from snooker for the 1990-91 season.
  • There were 18 century breaks in the 1990 World Snooker Championship.
