[edit] The event
The 1975 World Snooker Championship took place at Nunawading Basketball Centre, Nunawading, Melbourne, Australia in 1975.
[edit] Notable Moments
- With Park Drive having ended their sponsorship, the World Championship was awarded to Eddie Charlton Promotions to stage in Australia.
- The quarter-final between defending champion Ray Reardon and John Spencer was considered by many to be the real final which Reardon won 19-17.
- Dennis Taylor achieved his best championship showing at that point reaching the semi-final in the other half before a choppy Sydney to Brisbane plane journey on the morning of his semi-final match against local player Eddie Charlton contributed to him making a poor start from which he never recovered. Taylor lost 12-19.
- The final was the first in the modern game to go the full distance. Ray Reardon led 16-8; Eddie Charlton led 29-23; Reardon led 30-29; Charlton levelled and took the decider for his 31-30 victory.
- This was the last world championship to be held outside the UK. It took place in Middlesbrough and Manchester the following year and in the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield from 1977 onwards.
