[edit] The event

The 1975 World Snooker Championship took place at Nunawading Basketball Centre, Nunawading, Melbourne, Australia in 1975.

[edit] Notable Moments

  • With Park Drive having ended their sponsorship, the World Championship was awarded to Eddie Charlton Promotions to stage in Australia.
  • The quarter-final between defending champion Ray Reardon and John Spencer was considered by many to be the real final which Reardon won 19-17.
  • Dennis Taylor achieved his best championship showing at that point reaching the semi-final in the other half before a choppy Sydney to Brisbane plane journey on the morning of his semi-final match against local player Eddie Charlton contributed to him making a poor start from which he never recovered. Taylor lost 12-19.
  • The final was the first in the modern game to go the full distance. Ray Reardon led 16-8; Eddie Charlton led 29-23; Reardon led 30-29; Charlton levelled and took the decider for his 31-30 victory.
