[edit] History
The first chuckwagon races were in Calgary, Alberta in 1923[3] at the Calgary Stampede. While the origin of chuckwagon racing is debated[4], Guy Weadick, the founder of the Rangeland Derby Stampede (now the Calgary Stampede), brought chuckwagon racing to the attention of the public.
Dick Cosgrave, 10-time winner of the Calgary Stampede, remembers the birth of chuckwagon as an accident that occurred in 1919 after a cookout and the cooks raced to pack-up the wagon and get out of the grounds[5].
