[edit] History

The W.M.A.A. was originally a sub chapter of the International Modern Arnis Federation (IMAF) under Professor Remy A. Presas. Known then as Can-Am Chapter of the IMAF, it's intent was to supplement Professor Presas's organization. When Professor Presas's retirement was announced in 2000, the organization split off from the IMAF and changed it's name to World Modern Arnis Alliance, with an initial focus on Remy Presas's Modern Arnis, Balintawak stick fighting, the Filipino empty hand techniques in American Kenpo Karate and the combative intensity of Burmese Bando. It has since expanded and integrated techniques from related systems, such as GM Ernesto Presas's Kombatan.
