World Badminton Federation

The World Badminton Federation is a former badminton organization, it was founded in February 1978 and ceased its operation on May 26, 1981 after merged with International Badminton Federation (now known as Badminton World Federation).

The establish of World Badminton Federation was brought into the consideration after the unsatisfactory of some members over the policy of International Badminton Federation to accepts Taiwan badminton organization as a national organization, refuses to dismiss the South Africa badminton association, refuses to revise the association regulation for unreasonable provision. Moreover, in aspect of voting right, competition about the ball and location arrangement also has extremely unreasonable phenomenon.

For the equal development in the world badminton, the first establishment proposal was bring in by Asian Badminton Confederation (now known as Badminton Asia Confederation) in September 1977 in the first conference held in London. In the second conference in November 1977, it was announced that the African Badminton Union (now known as Badminton Confederation of Africa) withdrew from International Badminton Federation. In the third conference held in Hong Kong, the World Badminton Federation officially proclaims its founding. 27 members attends this conference, they are Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Kenya, North Korea, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Zambia and South Korea. Austria, France, West Germany, Mexico (on behalf of Pan American Badminton Confederation), Sweden and Yugoslavia sent the observer to attend a meeting as a non-voting delegate the conference.

The World Badminton Federation officially established in February 1978, during its establishment, they organised two editions of World Championships in 1978 and 1979 and World Cup in 1979.

The union with International Badminton Federation was brought into intention following the decision of Taiwan to change its organization to Chinese Taipei Badminton Association. After that South Africa also guarantee they will dismiss the World Badminton Championships.

in March 1981, a special conference was held with the voting result of 57 to 4 to support the unification. On May 26, 1981, the World Badminton Federation officially united with International Badminton Federation.[1]
