Workmen's Village, Amarna

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Located in the desert east of the ancient city of Akhetaten, the Workmen's village at Amarna closely resembles in many respects that much more ancient worker's village at Lahun or at Deir el-Medina, and was intended for the artisans who worked on the nearby Tombs of Nobles and the Royal Wadi. At the height of the Amarna Period, the population was 310.

It is located in a little valley on the south side of a low plateau that runs out from the base of the cliffs between the Royal Wadi and the Southern Tombs. Excavations here have yielded important discoveries.
