Working People's Cultural Palace

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Working People's Cultural Palace (or Beijing Working People's Cultural Palace, to use its official, full title) is the new name (from 1951, just after the founding of the People's Republic of China) for one of the two parks that were originally part of the Imperial City in Beijing, constructed by order of Ming Emperor Yong Le in the 1420s. This park is on the east of Tiananmen, while what is now called Zhongshan Park lies to the west. These two parks were historically linked to the Forbidden City.

The park still contains the ancient Ancestral Temple (Tai Miao) with its three grand halls.
