Wordsley Hospital

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wordsley Hospital was a NHS-owned hospital located in Wordsley, Stourbridge, which is in the West Midlands of England.

It was built around the turn of the 20th century, and was substantially expanded between 1930 and 1990 and even includes a separate hospital - Ridge Hill Hospital - which specialises in learning support and social care, without providing casualty or out patient facilities. The most recent addition to Wordsley Hospital was a maternity unit that opened in 1989, but it was made redundant in 2004 following the transfer of its facilities to Russells Hall Hospital.

Most of the Wordsley Hospital buildings were demolished in 2007 to make way for the construction of a new housing development.

The chapel and the modern maternity building are among the few parts of the hospital which have been retained.
