Can there be a better example of contemporary British anti-Catholicism than this list? Apart from the token inclusion of the marginal (if deeply unpleasant) Titus Oates, this is a good example of "Britain is better off without the Catholics" list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cravenmonket (talk • contribs)
- What a bizarre inference. The list certainly reads as "Britain is better off without religious fractiousness" but anti-Catholic? No. Badgerpatrol 12:07, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
How so ? Rich helped to persecute both Roman Catholics and Protestants, which is why he is included, but all the previous nominees are Roman Catholic because everyone was before 1500 (and if they were not Thomas Arundel would have burnt them) and none of the others after 1600 are Roman catholic. - Streona 14 oct 2007 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Streona (talk • contribs) 13:34, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Eadric
Eadric Streona would be insulted to be called a Briton, which meant the people that lived in Wales and Cornwall!
Probably, but the term "Briton" has been reappropriated to mean anyone citizen of the United Kingdom or at least the island of Great Britain, rather than one who speaks a Brittonic (Brythonic) language. This is probably to make up for the fact that it is a load of countries that have been merged over the years.
Considering Eadric Streona has been dead nearly a thousand years, the boy done good coming joint second to the comparatively recent Jack the Ripper. However, since we do not know who Jack the Ripper was,how can we know he was a Briton, especially as the main suspects include foreigners such as "a "Polish Kosher butcher" (unlikely) or Walter Sickert- more likely and German by birth ? Had Eadric been around today no doubt he would be able to influence the outcome by targetted assassination. We demand a recount!
