[edit] Manual and Electronic Timing

This distinction between manual and electronic timing is misleading and should be dispensed with. For one, it makes the assumption that if a time was recorded to the tenth of a second, it was manually timed. This is not necessarily so. The true distinction here is when the IAAF required fully electronic times for records, in 1981. Some of the previous records were electronically time, some not.

Also, some times were more properly recorded to the fifth of a second and should be rendered as such. To do decimal equivalents implies a level of accuracy which was not there. Canada Jack (talk) 17:15, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
