[edit] JLA storyline from 2000
Should there be mention made of the earlier World War III storyline from Grant Morrison's JLA in 2000? Kelvingreen 14:35, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- Done! --Nehwyn 20:22, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- Nice job! Kelvingreen 17:10, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] III or 3?
In 52 and the WWIII series, it was always referred to as World War III; never World War 3.
Also, I think more info should be added, so it's about the actual event that occured in the DCU and not just the four-issue miniseries. --DrBat 15:02, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed about the title. It's Roman numeral III. I've moved it accordingly. —Lowellian (reply) 03:02, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Redirecting
Nehwyn keeps changing this over to a redirect to Workd War III with no consensus on this. Looking through things they appear to have recreated this page at World War III (DC Comics). This kind of thing shouldn't be done as it breaks the edit history and also shouldn't be done without achieving a consensus. If one is reached then it can be moved to the new address. As such a discussion hasn't taken place I'm reverting the changes and seekign input on resolving this matter. Please do not change this entry to a redirect again. (Emperor 20:01, 21 May 2007 (UTC))
- Indeed. The title of this page was a misnomer, as it did not deal with the concept of World War III in comics in general, but only with the use of if within the DC Universe. Content has been moved to an appropriately titled page, while this page has been turned into a redirect to what its title actually indicates - the once place in Wikipedia where the discussion of WW3 in comics in general is found. --Nehwyn 20:10, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- Well, the "DC" part isn't needed since there's no "World War 3" in any other comics universes. A brief look through various comics-related articles should show that e.g. "(DC Comics)" or "(Marvel Comics)" is only needed for disambiguation past just "(comics)". --Pentasyllabic 20:24, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

- I'm afraid that isn't the way things are done. The disambiguation (comics) doesn't mean that it is purely for the discussion of the subject in comics it purely means this is a comic by that title. If there were multiple comics called "World War III" then moving this to World War III (DC Comics) would be a wise step. However, that would be done after discussion with other editors about the best way forward and most importantly it would be done my moving the page not just copy and pasting it. Moving maintains the history of edits. So to summarise:
- The naming of this entry is perfectly acceptable within the general Wikipedia naming guidelines and with the the way things are done within the Comics Project.
- If there were concerns about the name they should be raised on the talk page and a consensus reached.
- If it was deemed necessary for the entry to have a name then it would be moved using the internal mechanisms Wikipedia provide for this which keeps everything together.
- You have done none of these things which is why your turning this into a redirect has been reverted a number of times. I have asked for further input on cleaning up the mess but the simplest thing is to speedily delete World War III (DC Comics) and leave everything as it is as it was perfect fine the way it was.
- I hope that explains why a number of editors have been undoing the changes you've made. We do encourage editors to be bold but there are ways these things are done. (Emperor 20:31, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

- You are right in that moving the page would have been a more sensible choice, and if that appears to be an acceptable solution, I would approve of it. I still deem "(DC Comics)" more appropriate than "(Comics)" in relation to the specific content of the page; if you hold the opposite opinion and are set on it, you may want to recur to mediation to resolve the editing dispute, if all else fails. As for your idea of using speedy deletion instead, please keep in mind that Wikipedia tends to discourage its use as a way of resolving editing disputes - it serves other purposes. --Nehwyn 20:42, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

- Along those lines... If there has been content changes to the (DC Comics) version not reflected here, and it looks like there may be, they should be incorporated before that is eliminated.
- Also, it looks like almost all of the links from other articles will need to be reverted. - J Greb 20:46, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

- There is not another "World War III" in comics which is the only reason you would need an entry at (DC Comics) (if for example Marvel or Dark Horse had a title also called "World War III" then we'd need to look into this - but not before a quick discussion to make sure it is right). There will also not be a need for an entry discussing Workd War III in comics, World War III in popular culture is sufficient for all media. So this page doesn't need any further clarification. Basically if you have an entry on a comic called "X" and there are more than one things with the same name you'd mvoe it to "X (comics)", if there were more than one comics with that name then you'd move it to something like "X (Company)." However, they do have to be the same name (or as close as to make no difference) - they can't just be on the same subject. Ironically examples include X (comics) and Mister X (comics). The fact that there are comics called "World War III", "World War 3 Illustrated" and "Third World War" isn't cause for frther disambiguating any of those entries beyond their current naming. There is a good disambiguation page which helps clarify these World War Three (disambiguation) and all that is sufficient for people to find the right entry and avoid any confusion. - Your first statement is incorrect - there is another "World War III" in comics (more than one, actually), and I realise this is the disagreement at the core of this dispute. Again, if you feel strongly on this point, please consider mediation. As for your statement that there is no need for a separate page about the concept of WW3 in comics beyond the dedicated section within the popular culture page, I completely agree. --Nehwyn 21:03, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

- If there are other comics called "World War III" then name them. What I'm saying is that as it stands we have no such entries (and no hint of such entries on the pop culture and disambiguation pages) and so there appears to currently be no need for this entry to disambiguated further. If there are such entries (or the potential for them) then we can discuss it and if we reach a consensus on the way forward we can sort it out without very little fuss. - For a consideration of the usage of the term WW3 outside of the DCU, see the WW3 in popular culture. --Nehwyn 06:42, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

- I've seen it (I link to it above) and what I'm asking is are there other comics with the name "World War III"? If so then we may need to further disambiguate this entry but unless there are it seems fine here. I see you have added the mention of a "World War III" by an Ace Magazines - do you have a link for that as I have looked and can't find anything? (Emperor 16:31, 22 May 2007 (UTC))

- I reverted it 3 times and I made DC comics into WWIII DC Comics. Brian Boru is awesome 21:43, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

- The name of this article was discussed earlier this month on the WikiProject Comics talk page (archived discussion). Also, here is another comic named World War III. [1] It doesn't seem particularly notable, but it does have the same name. --GentlemanGhost 23:44, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

- Indeed it was discussed, and that is where the suggestion of using "DC Comics" first emerged, I believe. --Nehwyn 06:42, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Merge of the page histories and fix of the cut and paste move
Right, I've merged the page history and fixed the cut and paste move, so that the page history is all in one place. That one place is here for the present, that was just how it all ended up, per Wrong page. I've added a link to World War III in popular culture which includes depictions of World War III in comics, and is what I think Nehwyn refers to when the user mentions there are other World War III's in comics. Anyway, if you want to discuss a move then it looks like it will be contentious so the best thing to do is list it at Wikipedia:Requested moves. I'd suggest reading through the histories of this page and the other pages first though, this page has been moved around a bit and has already been moved from World War III (DC Comics) to here once before. Hope that all helps. Hiding Talk 21:11, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Run On
Too many run-on sentences in article, in my humble opinion. I'd fix it myself but I'm not an expert in the series, I'd rather not shorten the sentences and mess up the article in new, exciting ways. Lots42 17:05, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Ww3dc.jpg
Image:Ww3dc.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
