[edit] Holmes-Watson
The article presented the text as that of the experiment. Off-hand i like the "filled in" version better, but what is needed is not to improve on the 2nd-best joke, but to quote the experiment accurately.
I've therefore restored the prior version of the joke. (But thanks for the cop ed, which i retained.)
If what you mean is that the article is in error, first, say that clearly.
Second: The original editor got away with not providing documentation, largely bcz there was no controversy. If there is now a controversy, the change sought requires verification. If the Web has that, provide an exact URL (not just the site's front page.)
[edit] Wording
Regarding this sentence:
- The experiment was conducted in Britain, where researchers solicited people around the world to contribute jokes as well as judge them.
Is the wording appropriate? How come it was conducted in Britain if the research covered people around the world? Maybe it should be reworded differently to imply that "British researchers surveyed people from around the world" if that is what is meant here? Is it? --Jūzeris | Talk 16:51, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Spike Milligan
The article claims Spike Milligan created the winning joke. However, none of the sources support or refute it. I'm removing the mention and replacing it with a note that Geoff Anandappa Gurpal Gosall (switched first and second places) submitted it, which is noted on the Laugh Lab website itself. However, if someone is sure Milligan invented the joke, they should feel free to add that information, citing their source. Superm401 | Talk 06:02, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
The Daily Telegraph today claims it was definitely Spike. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/06/09/njoke09.xml&pPage=/core/Matt/pcMatt.jhtml The Real Walrus 12:01, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] NPOV considerations?
Have people other than Wiseman done similar studies? Ardric47 18:41, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
That's an interesting question, but I don't see how it's an NPOV issue. Smajie 17:07, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Funniest joke
Is the world's funniest joke that people think that there will be one? Jackiespeel 17:38, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- No --WikiSlasher 10:50, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Funnier jokes than here can be had even on the Jim_Varney page. Jidanni 07:33, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- You mean, that page which has zero jokes on it? OK.
Maybe its just that I've already heard them before, but none of these made me do more than smile, very slightly. Oh well. WikiReaderer 01:29, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] lol
it's funny that the top joke in Australia is the only one which in fact isn't funny! lol take it easy boys --euyyn 10:22, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
none of these are funny!are people that stupid?!
Although this is indeed irrelevant to the discussion, I have to disagree with User:Euyyn. I personally like the Holmes-Watson joke, and it rings a bell. I think I have seen some variants of it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danny sepley (talk • contribs) 05:35, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Hey, I didn't say anything about any other joke, just the australian one. Indeed from what I say you can infer that I found all the other jokes funny... --euyyn (talk) 09:57, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
These jokes suck!! Where's the sex?!?!?!?! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.179.188.58 (talk) 09:48, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
