Worcester Park is in Surrey, not Sutton.

- For some weeks a property developer was advertising Worcester Park as being in "the heart of Surrey" so it appears to be a popular misconception! When I lived nearby in the 1960s the area was so unfashionable some estate agents called it West Ewell.
My Aunt has lived in Worcester Park (KT4 Postcode) since the mid '70s, and we have always thought she was in Surrey. My Dad is over there visiting her now, and he is going to have a look at her tax assessment to see if it says "Surrey" or "Sutton". Nevertheless, the link you posted looks pretty convincing, I wonder if diferent councils could be involved for different things in Worcester Park?
- Worcester Park railway station is only a short distance from the boundary with Epsom and Ewell which is in Surrey. So someone living only just over the boundary would probably see themselves as living in Worcester Park despite not being in the London Borough of Sutton.
- An added complication is that the KT4 postcode (and therefore the area that has "Worcester Park" as part of the address) crosses several boundaries and includes parts of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and parts of Epsom and Ewell as well as part of the London Borough of Sutton. Such discrepancies between postal and political boundaries are very common. MRSC 18:56, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

- No problem at all. Our sense of "where we are in the world" is derived from many sources: post towns, postcodes, names of nearest railway station, political constituencies, estate agents invention/boundary stretching etc. all play a hand in it. MRSC 20:27, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
I live in Worcester Park. My address ends "Worcester Park, Surrey". My postcode starts with KT4. When voting, I vote for a candidate in the Kingston and Surbiton constituency. I can never decide, when describing where I live, whether to say it's Surrey or Greater London. It's both, I suppose. In the respects in which I'm not in Surrey, however, I'm definitely in Kingston rather than Sutton. I believe the boundary falls somewhere around the highstreet. TheJames 22:44, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

- Worcester Park has been in the county of Surrey for ever. There was a thought about includng it in "Greater London" when that was formed, but the residents objected wholeheartedly. One must not confuse a Borough with a County. Of course a county is no longer relevant for postal adresses, but that has never stopped Middlesex, has it? Fiddle Faddle 00:02, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

The article said that Worcester park was named after the Earl of Worcester, "appointed in 1606". I can't make any sense of this statement, so I removed it for the time being. Can anyone figure out how to word it correctly? --Slashme 16:55, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
I have my doubts about that source: Check the dates in Edward Somerset, 4th Earl of Worcester and Henry Somerset, 1st Marquess of Worcester. Am I missing something? My knowledge of the British Peerage is a bit shaky! --Slashme 18:34, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

The problem here is not whether we trust the sutton website, but that either it or the Wikipedia pages on the Earls of Worcester are wrong, and we have to figure out which. I'll post a comment on those discussion pages as well, maybe someone there can shed some light on the matter. --Slashme 05:23, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
