[edit] French Guiana

French Guiana is a part of France and so should also be coloured.

ok its been coloured, just hope people wont think its a separate country --Astrokey44 10:55, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

It's not an integral part of France, it's a separate territory under French sovereignty. Note Greenland is not given Denmark's color.

According to the French government (the highest authority on this issue), it is an integral part of the republic. I wish people would stop confusing this tedious issue. Did anyone argue when Alaska was to be coloured with the United States? As a state, Alaska has more rights than the French overseas territories, and thus is actually more independant, yet no argument is ever made. Thus, Guiana should be coloured (as it is), as well as Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Réunion. --Aquarelle 17:04, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Denmark

Denmark has also participated and should therefore be given a colour. Santac

fixed. --Astrokey44 05:01, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Legend

Should be "Quarterfinals", not "Finals". Chanheigeorge 18:39, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

its been changed --Astrokey44 11:40, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! I see you've also created a series of maps for individual World Cups too. If you have time, you may want to add more colors besides for 1st to 4th, to indicate the rounds the other nations reach (e.g. Quarterfinals, Round 2, Round 1), similar to the best results map. Chanheigeorge 16:42, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
I was going to, but I was not sure about the difference between round 2 and the quarter finals - round 2 was only from 1974 onwards, and on the table on National team appearances in the FIFA World Cup some years arent listed as having quarter finals (74-82). Maybe it would make sense for the individual years on their own, but I guess the colors wouldnt be the same across all the maps --Astrokey44 23:43, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
I think you can use the same colors from this map for Quaterfinals, Round 2 and Round 1 across the different maps. Round 2 do have different meanings across different tournaments:
  • 1974 and 1978: Second group stage, last 8
  • 1982: Second group stage, last 12
  • 1986 onwards: Knockout stage, last 16
I finally got around to it! I thought because round 2 changed that I would write the number on the map - 5-8, 9-16 etc., and I showed round 2 and quarterfinals the same as how it is mentioned on the table --Astrokey44 10:53, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Extinct Finalists

I like the map, but might it be a good idea to label the inset in the bottom left-hand corner? --die Baumfabrik 01:18, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

theres a second version of the map made by User:Udzu where the inset has been labelled: Image:World cup countries best results and hosts 2.PNG --Astrokey44 05:19, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Australia and Ghana

Australia and Ghana have now reached the second round, and may be recoloured. Procrastinator supreme 11:15, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Fixed. I also recolored Ecuador and Ukraine. 辻斬り? 16:11, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Soviet Union

I see the Soviet Union in 4th place in 1966. Russia (legal inheritor state of the USSR) should be colored for 4th place, with a text note "(As USSR)".

No, the USSR is already visible in the bottom left inset map. 辻斬り? 13:21, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hosts, and South Africa

Shouldn't South Africa be listed as a host? Or is someone concerned that South Africa will somehow be unable to host? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.66.184.238 (talk) 22:43, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

They just haven't hosted yet. --86.152.105.200 (talk) 15:52, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
