Woods County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 9,089. Its county seat is Alva[1].

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,290 square miles (3,341 km²), of which, 1,287 square miles (3,332 km²) of it is land and 4 square miles (9 km²) of it (0.27%) is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 9,089 people, 3,684 households, and 2,243 families residing in the county. The population density was 7 people per square mile (3/km²). There were 4,492 housing units at an average density of 4 per square mile (1/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 93.41% White, 2.38% Black or African American, 1.61% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 1.49% from two or more races. 2.42% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 3,684 households out of which 24.10% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.90% were married couples living together, 7.30% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.10% were non-families. 33.40% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.40% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.81.

In the county, the population was spread out with 19.20% under the age of 18, 16.80% from 18 to 24, 23.20% from 25 to 44, 20.90% from 45 to 64, and 19.90% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 103.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.70 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $28,927, and the median income for a family was $39,143. Males had a median income of $26,651 versus $18,968 for females. The per capita income for the county was $17,487. About 8.70% of families and 15.00% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.80% of those under age 18 and 6.80% of those age 65 or over.
