Wong Ming-Dao

Wong Ming-Dao (b. 1900 in Beijing) was a courageous Chinese Christian leader of the twentieth century. He was imprisoned for his faith by the Chinese government for 23 years and released in 1980. Born in Beijing in 1900, the year of the Boxer Rebellion, the story of the first fifty years of his life is told in the autobiographical A Stone Made Smooth (1981, Southampton, Mayflower Christian Books, ISBN 0907821006), translated by Arthur TF Reynolds. Other writings of Wong Ming-Dao available in English include Spiritual Food (1983, Southampton, Mayflower Christian Books ISBN 0907821014).

Leslie Theodore Lyall, in his biography of John Sung, refers to Wong Ming-Dao (spelled Ming-tao) on pages 164, 185, 187 and 189. He mentions Wong's reputation as an expositor of the Bible, his pastorship of the Christian Tabernacle in Peking, his friendship with John Sung and his "uncompromising witness in Japanese-occupied Peking". Lyall records that Wong conducted and preached at the funeral of John Sung.

Wong Ming-Dao died in 1991. Other anglicisations of his name that are found: Wang Ming-Dao, Wang Ming-Tao.
