Wonderland Online is an MMORPG developed by the Taiwanese gaming house Chinese Gamer International.[1] The game is set for some of the world but some have different names such as Oslya which in the game is meant to be in Australia but no such name exists. The game is available in several different languages—two Chinese versions that use both traditional and simplified Chinese,[2] Japanese, and the newly-developed English version being put out by meta-gaming site IGG. The English version of Wonderland Online began Beta testing on April 9, 2008.[3] After the Closed Beta period, the game will become open to the public without the use of activation codes.

[edit] Story
Wonderland Online begins aboard an ocean liner called the Oceanic Star, which is on a tour of the world. An accident aboard the ship causes it to sink, but not before all of the passengers are able to escape. The player gets washed up on a small, almost-deserted island, but is soon able to build a raft and travel to a larger island populated by both shipwrecked passengers and helpful natives. It is up to the player to decide whether to make the most of this situation or to try to escape from the island as soon as possible.
[edit] Characters
This video game-related article or section describes an aspect of the game in a primarily in-universe style. Please rewrite this article or section to explain the fiction more clearly and provide non-fictional perspective. |
In the game there are twelve different playable characters, as well as one secret character. Each character has his/her own special ability known as a Newbie Spell that builds on the character's special talents.
Nina
Wise beyond her years, Nina is a young girl who was traveling aboard the Oceanic Star to find out about the world. Nina comes from a rich family, and thus has the resources necessary to learn about any topic that comes to mind. Though she is wealthy, Nina is kind and resourceful, and will do anything to help those around her. When forced to fight, Nina uses the power of love to knock out the enemy.
Daniel
Not much is known about Daniel's life before he got aboard the Oceanic Star. His mysterious air is only heightened by the fact that Daniel refuses to answer any questions about his past. Whether he is trying to escape from his past or start anew is currently unknown. In battle, Daniel can beat his opponents senseless with an Overarm Stumble.
Betty
Betty was orphaned when she was very young when her parents died in a fire. However, Betty was soon adopted by the leader of a circus, and has since found a new family there. Through the years, Betty has developed a keen sense of balance and an energetic personality. Betty's special technique allows her to jump over targets and attack them from behind.
Vanessa
Vanessa is currently a senior in high school who does her best and performs well in class. Outside of class, however, Vanessa has been known to be a little clumsy, and is not able to organize her time as well as she would like. In the end, however, Vanessa has a strong will and a hidden talent for magic. When not using her magic skills, Vanessa can slap her enemies into submission.
Rock
Rock is a young boy from the country who was making his first journey away from home when the Oceanic Star began to sink. Due to his family's rural background, Rock is unphased by his new surroundings, and soon finds himself at home on the island. Rock's special talent is his ability to converse with many types of animals, though his favorite companions are dogs. He is able to use this talent to call upon a group of animals to defend him in combat.
Sid
A young boxer with a killer punch, Sid's athletic body and caring nature have served him well throughout his life. Sid is a friend to those in need, and will do anything in his power to defend even strangers from any kind of harm. Sid's signature move involves hitting the enemy with three quick, successive blows.
More
Known for his good looks and charming demeanor, More was the bartender aboard the Oceanic Star before it sank. It is said that More can fix any drink on the planet using his special skills, and that he always provides service with a smile. More is also popular with female passengers because of his keen sense of fashion, as well as his maturity. In battle, More is able to use his secret knowledge to create a combustible wine that can deal damage to opponents.
Nicole
Nicole is a natural athlete who is able to play any sport she can find. Though she is usually known to be calm, Nicole becomes very excited when one of her favorite topics is mentioned—currently, she is very excited by car racing. When not on the playing field, Nicole often spends her time learning more about this topic and brushing up on her driving techniques. Nicole's special skill allows her to test her driving abilities by defeating enemies with her car.
Konno tsuruko
Konno is the only daughter of a traditional Japanese family, and is only too happy to follow in the footsteps of her elders. Konno can usually be seen in her favorite kimono, much to the delight of the elders of her town. In addition to this, Konno is practicing the traditional art of ikebana in order to bring some Japanese flair to the island. In battle, Konno is able to perform a traditional dance that causes fire to envelop her targets.
Alice
Alice served on the crew of the Oceanic Star as an attendant. Popular with the passengers because of her good looks and calm demeanor, Alice constantly received gifts from admirers before the ship sank. Though she is no longer a member of the crew, Alice still wants to help the survivors, only showing even more that she lives up to her reputation. Alice is able to use a bomber to attack her enemies.
Maria
Another member of the crew of the Oceanic Star, Maria served as the ship's nurse. Now that the ship has sunk, Maria is busy attending to all of the survivors. Maria is usually willing to help anyone who asks for it, but can sometimes become impatient with naughty children. In battle, Maria can use a special type of healing magic to keep herself and her team members in top form.
Jessica
Born to a European royal family, Jessica has never wanted for anything. Naturally bright, Jessica has enjoyed the benefit of an extensive education in a variety of subjects. Jessica also possesses a natural talent for playing music, and is a virtuoso with the violin. In combat, Jessica can use the power of music to defeat her opponents.
Breillat
Breillat is a secret character that cannot be chosen when players begin the game. She works as a waitress on the Oceanic Star, but has become bored of living on the ship. She wants to travel and meet new people, so gives players the option to switch their original character with her. Breillat then copies the original character's hair and eye color, as well as the character's statistics. Her special ability is to throw her waitress's tray as a weapon.
[edit] Spells and Techniques
Wonderland Online makes use of the four classic elements for character techniques: players choose to have a character specialize in Fire, Earth, Water and Wind techniques during character creation, and this choice is non-reversible. Each of these elements is paired with the others so that characters are resistant to one element and weak against another. For example, Fire techniques do extra damage against Wind characters, but do less damage to Water characters.
In addition to techniques used in battle, there are a variety of other techniques that characters can learn by completing various quests. These include the ability to fish, mine or forage for items, and combine items using alchemy. Unlike elemental skills, each character can learn as many of these abilities as desired.
[edit] Character Classes
Though characters begin in the generic "Newbie" class when the game begins, upon reaching Level 100, characters can promote to different classes based on their statistics. These classes can be broken up into two main branches: Mage classes and Melee classes.
Within each greater group there are three specific jobs from which to choose. Mages can choose to become Wizards, known for their high intelligence and damaging spells, Priests, who excel at healing, and Prophets, who have the ability to foresee events. Melee jobs include Murderers, that are meant to have the highest attack power, Warriors that have high HP and defensive powers, and Knights that possess high agility ratings. Each of the jobs has its own special skill that can be learned only after choosing to specialize in that job.
