Wonalancet

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wonalancet or Wannalancit was a sachem of the Penacook Indians, who was the son of Passaconaway. He was chief from the time of his father's death in 1679 until his own death in 1697. His name is preserved by a village in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, by a river flowing through the village, and by a mountain which overlooks the village.

Wannalancit is also the name of a textile mill turned office building in Lowell, Massachusetts, which was an important fishing ground for the Pennacook.

The name "Wonalancet" translates to "Pleasant Breathing".
