OMG..what a suprise and thank you to Ben for adding this to WIKIPEDIA. I do hope others stumble on to this page and share their stories of the Wonderland. I am one of Jack and Joan Bates Daughters and was privilaged to grow up on this small piece of Heaven on Earth. I have so many stories to share as I am certain anyone has who has ever have the opportunity to stay at the Wonderland. I encourage you to share stories of the Wonderland and post your pictures.

I learned to count change back to the customers (rember those days when clerks could actually do this?) This was a milestone in our family. If you could count change back you could then work in the store.

Next hurdle was being able to show a Cabin to the tourist who were not familar with this style of trave. Dad (Jack) walked us children through how to show a cabin and the resort. Because we all know it was not just the cabin stay, bonfires by the lake,it was the beautiy of this land, lake shore and along the creek.

Every Sunday Mom did laundry, sometimes Mom was doing laundry into the week. Mom always brought good towel and sheets for the Cabins. Mom even ironed all those sheets and she had a secret way to fold the towels

Mom was very patient with me as a cabin cleaner. Mom took me thru step by step on cleaning a cabin. Mom usually followed and made sure I did things right and if not she quietly changed or finished it. I must confess I hated to vacum and rarely did a good job, but mom alway finished it.

As the eldest daughter I watched baby Kirk during the tourist season. Especially during the tourist season. Kirk fit right in to our resort life. Smelting, bonfires and making new friends everyweekend. I do think growing up on the Resort is why we all ended up in careers working with the public in one way or the other.

Agates could be sold to Dad for 49 cents a pound. Dad always had the tumbler going and sometimes....if we were lucky....Dad would give us a sneak peak on how the agates were doing in the polishing process.

How about the "Mongoose from Vietnam"....LOL Dad taught us how to show the tourist that "Mongoose"..just wiggle the tail with this...he will turn around and his face is sooo cute!....GOTCHA.....Tara

In the winter of 1972 Hollywood was in town to shoot a film, "You'll Like My Mother", the production company asked my parents if they could shoot a scene at the store. It was a snowy day when they did the shoot, Patty Duke was acting out shopping in the store. The scene never made it in the film, The Duluth News Tribune did take of picture of Ms. Duke outside of the store. The story of the filming and the picture were in the Duluth News Tribune the next day.

In order for this article to survive on Wikipedia, we need some citations. I have no time to do research, but if you remember Wonderland Resort ever being in the paper or in any publication, please cite that in this article. If we can get a couple citations this will establish credibility and notability. We can then remove the message at the top of the article.
