There is no original research in this article. It was written by people who read the book. If you haven't read the book, then please don't participate. If you don't believe the book says, "Thursday, October 4, 1970," then pick up a copy at a library and you'll find it. There are millions of sources on the fact that on Sunday, October 4, 1970, Janis Joplin's body was discovered at a hotel three miles away from the building where Danny Sugerman was hanging around trying to find Jim Morrison. Several Los Angeles tourism web sites show you the cafe on Santa Monica Blvd. that used to be the Doors' office where Morrison and Sugerman spent much of their time together. It's three miles away from what is today the Highland Gardens Hotel where Joplin died.
If you don't believe Sugerman claimed to have done drugs with Mackenzie Phillips after she started working on One Day At A Time, please read the book. He was 23 when she was arrested in November 1977. Source is the front page of the Los Angeles Times. He says that was before he went in the mental hospital. Sugerman's claim that everything happened before he turned 21 and while he was 21 was false. That doesn't mean the whole book is false. The article says it was graphically accurate.
