Goddess?

Wasn't Diana a goddess? I don't know too much about that, can someone else fill in the gaps?

There is also the possibility that you read something about the John Byrne run in the mid 1990s. He briefly made Diana (WW) the Goddess of Truth. Luis Dantas 10:46, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

WW is named Diana, but she most certainly is not particularly linked to the Roman Goddess that shares that name with her. Nor with Artemis, the corresponding Greek Goddess, for that matter. As for how WW became the Goddess of truth, Zeus ascended her when she died. But she ended up too stuck with mortal ways and was restored. I did not directly read that material, though. Word reached me that I probably will not want to. Luis Dantas 10:11, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

Birdman?

I'm not sure the mention of Birdman in this article is accurate. I thought Birdman was an Alex-Toth-created made-for-TV superhero. Taco Deposit | Talk-o Deposit 02:08, Sep 29, 2004 (UTC)

Maybe there's been more than one Birdman? --Paul A 04:50, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Apparently the "Birdman" in question in this article was "Wingo the Birdman," if this website[[1]] is accurate. Someone can also look up Wonder Woman 161 (Jan 1965) or 165 (July 1965) to confirm this. SterlingNorth 23:31, 12 May 2005 (UTC)
Yes, we finally have proof. Here's an article with a picture of one of the bird-people.[[2]] And yes, this is from the age when Wonder Woman's writing fell down a cliff. SterlingNorth 23:32, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

Steve Trevor

This article's handling of Steve Trevor is a bit odd: it mentions him here and there, mostly in reference to ways he changed over the years, without ever bothering with an initial explanation of who he actually was. --Paul A 04:50, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Recent plot details

Is it really necessary to include plot details about recent stories? (e.g. "Diana now has grey eyes.") We don't provide that level of information about the stories published in, say 1975, after all. I think the article should stick to an overview of the character and general description of her current status, and leave the "and then in issue number...." stuff to the fansites. Tverbeek 2 July 2005 15:47 (UTC)

It's not the eye colour thing. It's the "After saving Hermes, and putting Athena on the throne, she was rewarded by binding her eyesight with Diana's." If the character was blind, and now she's not (or something to that effect), I do think is relevant. The colour of her eyes may be an irrelevant detail. The fact that she can now see again it's not. -- Andromeda 2 July 2005 20:17 (UTC)
But do we need a plot synopsis of how it happened? If she was blind, but now she's not, then why not take out the statement that she's blind, because it apparently was just a temporary thing (and therefore, not all that notable). Adding info about each story arc as it comes along like this is (I think) unnecessary detail. Tverbeek 2 July 2005 23:07 (UTC)

According to recent issue's blurb from Greg Rucka's website, I am fairly sure that it is a consequence of her fight with a Gorgon. Shades of Saint Seiya's Shiryu, who had a similar predicament while fighting Algol. I may be wrong. Luis Dantas 10:49, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Yes, she blinded herself in order to take down the mythical Gorgon, in the same way Shiryu had done to win Algol, but she burned her optical nerves with some venom taken from a severed serpent head of the Gorgon. Being her wound a wound inflicted by a "god", it couldn't be repaired by magical and technological beams, like the Purple Ray, and for a while it seems to be permanent. Athena herself stated her inability to restore her vision, and Wonder Woman, like Shiryu, had to cope with her blindess, but after she selflessly saved Hermes from Ades's clutches, requesting as a boon the restoring of a child turned stone by the gaze of the Gorgon, Athena decided to share with Diana her godly vision. In her profile we can put that last part... now Wonder Woman seems to have an enhancement in her "Spirit of truth" powers. She's not a human lie detector, but she can "see", even without resorting to her Golden Lazo, the "wrongness" of some situations, or at least she wondered on that enhancement DrTofu83 21:40, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

It seems that a god can only "heal" people turned to stone by a Gorgon, but wound inflicted with the venom of her snake are beyond the most skilled god ability. And Wonder Woman, seeing that a blindfold didn't have any effect, burned down with such a venom her optical nerves. There weren't much to heal when the battle ended. In fact Cassie expected that, after the mission in Tartarus, Athena would heal herself, or let a most skilled god heal Diana, but she preferred to share with her a part of her vision. Maybe that would return... if Wonder Woman is now able to see some more truth, she would be able to see a way to end the OMACs invasion, even paying an high toll DrTofu83 09:03, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

Andru and Hughes' Pics?

Someone should upload pics by Ross Andru and Adam Hughes of the character, as those two have probably been the most influential in depicting the character besides Peter and Perez. They certainly deserve it more than J.G. Jones who gets two pics on here!! Hueysheridan 15:01, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Love Hewitt for Wonder Woman

I hope Joss Whedon casts Jennifer Love Hewitt as Wonder Woman in the new movie. Love is power, Love is justice, Love is Wonder Woman.

Paradise Island Destroyed, Wonder Woman to die ?!!

I've read the article Wonder Woman myself, that is how I had found out about the battle going on. Does DC Comics intend that Paradise Island be destroyed, these women exterminated, or is this one of those "cliff hangers" ? Will Wonder Woman be destroyed ?!Martial Law 05:09, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

With a movie version of Wonder Woman just around the corner, I think the odds of her dying in Infinite Crisis are slim to none. But it's possible some sort of reinvention/reboot may be in the offing considering how things are developing in the storyline. 23skidoo 05:50, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Huge threats to Paradise Island are actually a standard WW plot. They happen all the time. John Byrne had one early on his WW run, Marv Wolfman actually had one early on his New Titans title in a story that IIRC did not even involve Diana, even the 1970s TV show had a few plots of imminent invasion of Paradise Island.

It is not all that different from, say "Captain America's values are put to test", "How will Batman feel about the dangers his teenage sidekick is facing?", "Can Iron Man save Stark Industries from its enemies" or "How can Spider-Man deal with both a classic enemy back for vengeance and his aunt's failing health?". It is simply a stock, fairly obvious plot that relies on the character's established supporting cast. Luis Dantas 10:58, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

In there (http://www.acme-superstore.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2188&sid=874223a454d571f4fcc8c2fcbc9b3108) are discussing about it. Fans at this point are pretty sure that something big will die before the end of the crisis, and DC has announced a new Wonder Woman v3, like a new Checkmate and Blue Beetle. It's also stated in that link that DC comics is forced to keep a Wonder Woman alive to maintain merchandising rights. But Wonder Woman had really crossed the line, we read. This time, is not an alternate universe, is the real deal. So, supposing that after the Crisis Donna Troy will return to her superhero career, a logical conclusion for some fan is actually the handling of the Wonder Woman mantle from Diana to Donna, a fresh "restored" character, loved by long time fans, and, in internal narration, perceived as "pure" and "uncompromised" with Maxwell Lord death. DrTofu83 13:18, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Rights

Recent RACDU discussion claims that DC now has full rights to use WW, and no longer needs continued publication to keep them. Luis Dantas 14:53, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

  • Another possibility is the return of the old Diana Prince WW (Infinite Crisis spoiler ahead). Earth-2 Superman in I.C. #2 stated his desire to basically bring Earth-2 back; it's possible the "death" of this divergent WW might result in a reset button being pushed and suddenly we end up with Diana Prince of Paradise Island coming back in some form. This is all speculation, but DC does seem intent on rewriting the books this time (while, it seems, undoing a lot of what Crisis on Infinite Earths set out to do 20 years ago).23skidoo 00:51, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

Anyone have DC Comics's contact info.................

Anyone have DC Comics Contact info., incl. the "snail mail" contact info. ?Martial Law 02:18, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

  • Check the indica page of any (recent) DC Comic book. 23skidoo 15:49, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Purple Ray ?!

What is this thing. Heard it stated it is a regeneration device. Who or what built this thing ? Can it be used to destroy the "undead" ?Martial Law 05:56, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

The Purple Ray was created by a German scientist and (former) spy, the Baroness Paula von Gunther. It is a _very_ early Wonder Woman concept - it was used to help Steve Trevor in the very first WW story IIRC. There is some WWW info on her - see [3] and [4]. Once upon a time Donna Troy's powers were a result of cautious use of the Purple Ray to transfer a tiny fraction of many Amazons' power to her. It has also been used on other people along the years - Changeling of the New Teen Titans (who got a power boost from the experience) and Zatanna of the JLA come to mind. See [5].
There, I decided to create an article on the matter. See Purple Ray (comics). Luis Dantas 13:27, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

How long is Infinite Crisis is to last ?

How long is Infinite Crisis is to last ?Martial Law 04:02, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

  • The main storyline is supposed to run for, I believe, 6 issues, however as you know the leadup has gone on since late 2004. Apparently, however, the fallout from I.C. is expected to have a bearing on all mainline DC Comics for the forseeable future (including this apparent time-shift that's supposed to happen). Crisis on Infinite Earths continued to have an impact on DC titles for years afterwards, and I heard I.C. is considered to be on par with the earlier Crisis (not to mention, as it now turns out, a direct sequel). 23skidoo 03:28, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

Artemis

I'm surprised not to see Artemis mentioned (the stand-in WW that is). I don't have the knowledge to start an article on her, but I want to start one for the OTHER Artemis / Tigress in the Injustice Society. I suppose my question is: should Artemis have her own article, or just a mention in WW's article? Korvac 22:26, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Both. - SoM 00:39, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
use Artemis (comics), listed in Artemis (disambiguation), for the charater page Dyslexic agnostic 05:52, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
Stubberific! I'll put SOMETHING in there at least. Korvac 16:13, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
I took the liberty of referencing Artemis, as well as making a bio page on her here. Hope this helps. Artemisboy 12:03, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Co-created by Marston's wife?

What is the source for the comment that Marston's wife co-created Wonder Woman? I've never seen that in any of the reference works on the character or on Marston. 23skidoo 18:58, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

Prune tv details?

It seems that when the material on the tv show was forked off into its own article, a large chunk of the intro was left behind on the main Wonder Woman article. Should this duplication not be pruned back to a few sentences plus a more prominent link to the tv article? JavaKid

Where does she live?

I don't think I read anything about where on Earth Wonder Woman resides. Mind you, I don't know much about the character; I don't know if she lives in a city, travels the Earth a lot, or maybe only comes to Earth at certain times. So, if I could get some help, that would be wonderful.--Kelly Chartier 06:37, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Opps! Now I get it: she lives in Themyscira (which is somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle), and goes to America when there's trouble. I see now.--Kelly Chartier 07:49, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
That is a way of looking at things, I guess. In practice, she lives in some American big city and returns to Themyscira occasionally (sometimes very occasionally indeed). Pre-Crisis that city would be New York; post-Crisis, it was Boston, then (during Byrne's run) the fictional Gateway City, CA (based on San Francisco, I think). I think she has since moved again. Luis Dantas 14:10, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Have you ever noticed how many bleeding comic book character's fight crime in New York? Is there one that fights crime in Los Angeles? I know this isn't important, but darned if it isn't bothering me.--Kelly Chartier 06:38, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
In the Marvel Universe there were several. First The Champions of Los Angeles, then Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew), and finally The West Coast Avengers.Luis Dantas 13:21, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

My understanding is her present home is the Themyscrian Embassy but I don't know which city that's located in (this being the DC world, Washington is not necessarily the automatic assumption). Given her present legal status, her home is probably more accurately the UN prison. 23skidoo 15:11, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Shouldn't someone put this information into the article? If I've missed it and it's there: my mistake. But I haven't read anything pertaining to where she fights crime.--Kelly Chartier 10:13, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps those most frequented places should be listed? Not sure though.--Kelly Chartier 06:09, 19 January 2006 (UTC)--

In Washington, DC., you'll find all or most of the embassies and/or consulates in the US. Martial Law 10:21, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Or, in midtown on the east side of Manhattan where the United Nations Headquarters is located.RandallFlagg 12:55, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Invisible Jet Origin

The article states there is an origin for the Invisible Jet, but neither explains it nor provides a redirect. Can someone enlighten me? RandallFlagg 12:57, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

I've seen that the plane was created on "Science Island", a island located near Paradise Island itself. Seen the data offsite. User:23Skiddoo may have more info. Martial Law 05:28, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
'Fraid I don't. I'm not well-versed on the history of the plane. 23skidoo 17:00, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Earth-Two Wonder Woman

Template:Spoiler The recent reappearance of the Earth-Two Wonder Woman in Infinite Crisis #5 piqued my interest about her. Could someone more familiar with the E2 Diana Prince include some information about her in the main article? I know that she was the mother of the Pre-Crisis Fury, and I know what happened to her at the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths, but I'm interested in knowing more about how her character was distinguished from the Earth-One version, the way (the Earth-Two) Superman & Batman were.
