Talk:Wonder Boy (video game)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
User 141.140.128.127 posted the joke "Kate is the fattest". I told him that the joke was not allowed in the article, but such can be told on the talk pages.
The joke refers to Alex Kidd in High Tech World, where there there is a sign referring to one of seven maidens. WhisperToMe 06:35, 7 May 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Text from "Wonderboy" (no space) article
I've changed Wonderboy article to a redirect to this article (Wonder Boy). Here's old text from Wonderboy. It's not brilliant and has very little useful info:
Wonderboy is the title of a video-game. It is what is known as a "side-scrolling platformer", as it features a young boy, (dressed in quasi-tribal clothes), adventuring through various levels and repeated environments in a two-dimensional environment.
The goal of the game is to clear each "level" section, obviously avoiding death. To avoid death, one must collect fruit to maintain the characters "vitality", avoid rocks, fires, spiders, snails, wasps, fish etc.
Each collision reduces the charater's vitality, and one is forced to collect fruit that appears on each level to counter this. Falling down a gap or into the sea causes death also.
This game was made for arcade (MAME) machines, Sega Master System, and Sega Megadrive. It is fairly legendary as one of the most addictive games of it's time.
[edit] Rewritten
I've done a rewrite of this article that covers the first game - and only the first game - in greater detail. I've also created a template for all of the Wonder Boy games, which now link to each other. Comments on the changes are welcome. Jamyskis Whisper, Contribs 14:04, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] More additions
OK, I've added sources, made some corrections, changed some red shirts, created more relevant links, expanded the critical reaction section and added a load of arcade screenshots. There's still some stuff to do and then we might be on the way to a featured article with this one:
- Information on the production is needed. Authors, background, quirks etc. I couldn't find anything from Googling, if anyone has any more luck that would be great.
Screenshots of other versions. I'm on it.Done. Jamyskis Whisper, Contribs 21:14, 10 January 2006 (UTC)- More information on the arcade specs. Shouldn't be a problem, needs more research.
- Posters, flyers, etc. I've seen a couple of sites hosting these but I don't know what the copyright status is on these. Technically it would classify as fair use but I just feel bad about ripping 'em off other people's sites. I'll ask for permission as soon as I'm sure that use of them would be fair use. It's only nice.
- A listing and description of power-ups and enemies.
It's certainly more than it was before anyhow. Jamyskis Whisper, Contribs 20:14, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] First Game?
In the section about the differences between Wonder Boy and Super Wonder Boy, I have an issue with this part:
"Widely mistaken as the first Wonder Boy game ever, Wonder Boy for the Sega Master System is the second Wonder Boy game to be released in Japan and the first in North America and Europe. Wonder Boy for the Sega Master is actually the translation of the SG-1000 Mark III game Super Wonder Boy (not to be confused with Super Wonder Boy in Monsterland which is the Japanese version of Wonder Boy in Monster Land). Super Wonder Boy is one of the few 8 bit game that has yet to be emulated. Super Wonder Boy is identical to Wonder Boy of the Sega Master System with the sole difference being the "Super" on the title screen."
If one game is just a different version of the other, doesn't that mean Super Wonder Boy, Wonder Boy, or whatever other name it has is still the first game in the series? After all, we don't count every port of Wonder Boy in Moster Land as an individual entry in the series, right? I wanted to post here before changing it in case I was missing something. -Unknownwarrior33 20:30, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "Crash remained unconvinced,"
What exactly is this Crash unconvinced of? Why do they "remain" unconvinced? Should something have changed their state of not being convinced? This statement just seems odd and should either be rewritten into something comprehensible or deleted.69.222.55.140 18:05, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:SMS Wonderboy.png
Image:SMS Wonderboy.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
