The photo contributes significantly to the article by showing the subject, a convert from Islam to Buddhism whose conversion went unrecognised by the government of Malaysia until after her death; specifically, it shows that she is of more typically Malay than Chinese appearance, and that she was willing to be photographed without a headscarf
