Woldemar, Prince of Lippe (18 April 1824-20 March 1895) was a Prince of Lippe.

Woldemar was born in Detmold the third child of Leopold II, Prince of Lippe (1796-1851) and Princess Emilie of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (1800-1867). Following the death of his brother Leopold III on the 8 December 1875 Woldemar succeeded him as Prince of Lippe.

Woldemar married Princess Sophie of Baden (1834-1904) on the 9 November 1858 in Karlsruhe but the marriage was childless and Woldemar was succeeded by his brother Alexander as Prince of Lippe, although he never ruled and Prince Adolf of Schaumburg-Lippe was appointed regent.

[edit] Lippe Detmold Question

The Lippe Detmold Question arose upon the death of Prince Woldemar in March 1895. His brother Alexander being insane, there was a dispute over who would succeed to the throne, being complicated by one of the candidates being the brother in law of the German Emperor Wilhelm II. There were various compromises and the matter was finally resolved in 1905.

Developments can to some extent be followed in articles in The Times.
