[edit] Whoniverse articles
Please refrain from adding boyfriends, girlfriends, family, coworkers, friends and fellow companions to the "affiliates" section of articles. This detail is all included in the main body of the article. The affiliates section should be a very brief account of their actual affiliations - Doctor incarnations and organizations only, pretty much.~ZytheTalk to me! 20:51, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking - not my opinion, just conventional practice. For example - Buffy Summers affiliations should read Watcher's Council and Scooby Gang. We could add all her boyfriends, high school classmates, parents etc. but life details all go in the body of the article. An affiliations section of the infobox should just basically sum stuff up. Sarah Jane is a companion of 2 Doctors as well as a tag team with K-9. Rose is a companion of 2 Doctors. Mickey is a companion of one Doctor and worked for The Preachers. That's all "affiliations" requires. I'm certain the consensus at WP:WHO would agree.~ZytheTalk to me! 14:45, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Italicizing titles
Hello Wolf of Fenric. Please see the following which I have copied from the Wikipedia:WikiProject Doctor Who
- Where mentioned in subsequent text, story titles should be italicised and reference should be made to the year it was broadcast (and/or which Doctor's era it belonged to). For the classic series, if references are made to individual episodes within serials, the title should be put in quotes.
This effects the first three seasons of the First Doctor. Thus, your current edits are italicizing episodes which are supposed to be in quotes. For example on The Web Planet you italicized the note about "The Lion" and "The Space Museum" - this note was referring to the individual episode names and not the entire serial. My apologies for crashing into the edits that you are making and some of your italicizing is okay but please stop further edits to episode titles. If you have any questions please feel free to ask at the project talk page and happy editing. MarnetteD | Talk 21:09, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- And thank you for your note. I think that there are more style guidelines at wikiP than any one person can ever keep in their mind. As I said above any questions you might come up against can be posted at the Dr Who projects talk page. Should you venture beyond the DW pages here are two other good places to get answers from: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard or the Wikipedia:Village Pump. Most wikipedians (though not all sadly) are glad to help and will answer your questions in fairly short order. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 20:34, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Good Work
Hi again. I just wanted to leave a note saying good work on linking characters, planets etc to other wikipages about them in the Doctor Who articles. It is alot of work and your accuracy is much appreciated. If you haven't already done so you may want to check back to The Space Museums page as I think I may have reverted your tying of Xeros to its page when I was fixing the italics situation. Many apologies and keep up the good work. MarnetteD | Talk 17:23, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] AfD nomination of List of Doctor Who henchmen
An editor has nominated List of Doctor Who henchmen, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Doctor Who henchmen and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. [edit] Help
{{helpme}}
Is there any way of removing the entries of vandals on my history? I want to remain anonymous, yet my name shows up in my history thanks to a vandal. Wolf of Fenric 02:41, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- If it's personal information, yes, through WP:OVERSIGHT. Otherwise, no. Real96 03:04, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) What you want is Oversight - the process through which individual edits can be hidden to normal users. In this case, I believe a request would be approved. To make such a request, follow the directions given at WP:RFO carefully. It may take some time for the revision to be removed from the page history, but it probably will be eventually. Hersfold (talk/work) 03:05, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Marsha Shandur
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Marsha Shandur, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. — iridescenti (talk to me!) 11:55, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- It's been contested so now sent to AfD to decide — iridescenti (talk to me!) 14:11, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your hard work
Hello again. I just wanted to let you know that it looks like the hard work that you put in linking many items in the Dr Who articles is being undone. User:Rambutan is claening up these articles using AWB an autwikibrowser program that does more things than I understand about computers. Now I am not trying to start a conflict and if you are okay with these changes then my apologies for bothering you. But if you are concerned I suggest that you go to the wikiproject Dr Who talk page and explaing what you were doing in your original edits and see if the members of the project want your edits in the article or not. Thanks for your time. MarnetteD | Talk 20:43, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- So that you know that I am not trying to play you off against each other I have posted a variation of this note on Rambutan's page. Now, I also know that I don't always see all of the discussions at the projects talk page and it is possible that you have spoken with each other and that a consensus has been reached, if so, I apologize for taking up your time.MarnetteD | Talk 21:04, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- As I look at his recent edits it looks like the it might only be The Five Doctors that has been affected. If you look at the difference between the page before and after his his AWB cleanup edit I think you will see what my message was about. I have restored the Pertwee link but didn't touch the others until you had a chance to talk, though I now see from his user page that they may be unavailable for a few days. Please also read the note I have left on this editors page as I want to be fair to you both and if I am only making things worse I will need to be corrected by you both. MarnetteD | Talk 21:17, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for you note. I had gotten used to your linking villians/planets/races etc that I assumed that the things being removed were yours. Sorry for jumping the gun. I didn't mean to create more work for you, but, you may want to leave a short note on this editor's page explaining what you have been doing. MarnetteD | Talk 21:34, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm Rambutan! I'm very sorry if I've caused any trouble or loss of work - I hate it when someone just takes out my contributions! The AWB program was suggesting that I delink all those things because they were multiple wikilinks (ie there was already a link to that page higher up in the article). I didn't notice about the cast-list issue, that many characters would appear in linked form both there and higher up in the article. So please accept my apologies!--Rambutan (talk) 06:36, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Story arcs in Doctor Who
Hey there. I'm concerned about some additions that you made to this page. Please read/respond to the discussion here I want your honest opinion. Let me know what you think of the point I bring up.--Dr who1975 05:00, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] "Burn With Me"
Due to the fact that the above Phrase featured prominently in last night's Doctor Who Episode, 42, I'd like to re-instate it as a recurring theme in Doctor Who - except I can't find it int he article's history. Can you help? SaliereTheFish 13:43, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] 42_(Doctor_Who) 'Burn with me.'
I notice you appear to have bypassed the talk page discussion about this line when you decided to put it back into the continuity section, citing its mention in [the official BBC Fact File]. It has been pointed out that the very same site mentions such vital pieces of information as "42 ... is the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything" and "42 minutes is the approximate length of a standard episode of Doctor Who". As such, I'm not sure your reasoning for putting it back in holds up. Digby Tantrum 15:59, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Thank you
Just wanted to say, thank you for all your hard work with the Story arcs article :) I'm just informing you that official policy about episode titles since "Rose" is that they take quotation form, with serials remaining in italics. ~ZytheTalk to me! 21:05, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, basically the policy people descended on the Wikiproject talk page and everyone came to the conclusion that it has to be done with the policy on serials still a bit iffy, but they formalized it in the end. As far as I know, they're going through the episode articles from Rose-42 at the moment, but it's so much more than that because we have all the classic serials linking in terms of continuity... the characters, elements etc. It'll probably be almost done in a month if the whole Wikiproject gets informed.~ZytheTalk to me! 14:20, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] UNIT in the Sound of Drums
The President says "not one unit", not "not even UNIT" in the trailer. I've checked ten-fold. Will (talk) 00:30, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
- In fact, rewatching the trailer in good quality (and not the crappy RealVideo version on BBC's site), you're right, but it is ambiguous. Will (talk) 18:24, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Theme tune/Drumbeat
Find a source, then insert it. Not the other way round. Will (talk) 00:09, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- No, it's not obvious. To me, the drumbeat is just "one-two-three-four one-two-three-four one-two-three-four" Will (talk) 00:16, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- The drumming in the trailer for Last of the Time Lords doesn't sound remotely like anything in the theme tune, though. Will (talk) 00:25, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- It's the same thing, though - the Master hearing the drums. Will (talk) 00:28, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- We can't add it in even if it's obvious: look at Blink (Doctor Who) - the letter delivery is a homage to Back to the Future II, but we don't have that fact in because there's no sources saying it is. Verifiability, not truth. Will (talk) 00:34, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- It's the same thing, though - the Master hearing the drums. Will (talk) 00:28, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

I would like to add to what Will has said. I accept that you, and many other people (including the Fear Forecasters) think that the drumming sounds like the theme tune. However, that is not conclusive evidence that the former was derived from the latter. The similarity between the two could simply be coincidental, and there is no official source suggesting otherwise. The Fear Forecasters are not an official source; they are members of the public who have been allowed to preview the episode. The fact that their views appear on the Doctor Who website does not signify that they are correct; various popular rumours have appeared on the site before, and many of them have not been substantiated. I hope that this has helped to clarify the situation for you. Robin S 00:40, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] K-9 Mark II
Unless you have a source which says that the box featured at the end of The Invasion of Time contains a fully functional K-9 unit, then, for all we know, it could be empty, or merely contain design plans or unassembled parts, or even a talking cabbage. Without such evidence, your assertion that K-9 Mark II appears in that story is purely your own theory (ie. original research); Wikipedia is not an outlet for such speculation. --Mark H Wilkinson (t, c) 15:04, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, but I'm not asserting anything about the box. That's the difference. --Mark H Wilkinson (t, c) 15:11, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'm saying that his first inarguable on-screen appearance is in The Ribos Operation. --Mark H Wilkinson (t, c) 15:16, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- And to repond to what you added while I was typing the above, so what? We see a box. It has the characters "K9 MII". We are teased with the possibilities of what it contains — a nice twist to the last episode of that season. But what we don't see is K-9 Mark II. The defence rests. --Mark H Wilkinson (t, c) 15:21, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the new upload: is this capped from the same serial and on the same date? I've adjusted the rationale to reflect which article it's for, but I obviously can't provide the other information. Cheers. --Mark H Wilkinson (t, c) 19:35, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Woah there!
Could you please stop moving all episode images to the left! The MOS states images should be on the right, and moved down if they interfere with the infobox. I have raised it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Doctor Who. — Edokter • Talk • 23:00, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sweet Revenge (television drama)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Sweet Revenge (television drama), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Sweet Revene (2001 Television drama). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 18:52, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Article on Castellan
It was with interest that I noticed a link in the cast list of The Five Doctors for Paul Jerricho's role, the Castellan. Upon reading it, however, I must express concern, which I initially did on the programme's main article's talk page. A misreading of that resulted in Digby Tantrum's changing your work to a redirect to Arc of Infinity. Castellan is actually a job title, while your text implies it to be the character's name. Furthermore, it appears in two other, earlier stories, The Deadly Assassin and The Invasion of Time, held by at least one and probably two other Time Lords---two different actors are involved, and in the latter story, that Castellan is killed. So even if he is the same one from Assassin regenerated (I haven't seen Invasion in years), he still cannot be the one seen in Arc and Five played by Jerricho. The article is in need of major revision, but as I just conceded a lack of a good grip on the details of the latter of the two earlier serials, I should not be the one to do it. I am genuinely sorry that Digby so grossly misinterpreted my posting, as I have no objection to an accurate article on this topic. Ted Watson 19:18, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Digby Tantrum seems intent on eliminating this article, claiming to me "Neither the character nor the office meets notability guidelines for having a separate article." Compared to more than I care to count that do exist here, and given a rewrite to be about the position in general and covering all four stories, I can't see that. Just a heads up. Ted Watson 20:49, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:LesleySJA.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:LesleySJA.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 00:16, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Warriors of the Kudlak.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Warriors of the Kudlak.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:07, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:LesleySJA.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:LesleySJA.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. [edit] Ageism and Sexism
What one intends and what one does aren't always the same thing. You may not have intended to step on someone else's toes, but you've done so nonetheless. I'm just telling you to be cautious lest you meet someone who is rather passionate about the issue. DonQuixote (talk) 02:08, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- Look, I'm not trying to smear your reputation or whatever. I'm just saying that you have made an unintentionally sexist remark and I'm pointing it out before someone gets really offended. If you can't at least try to understand the other side, then I can't help you. Please try to understand that if the roles were reversed, that is a female protagonist with a male sidekick, no one would probably note the age difference. Please try to keep this in mind. DonQuixote (talk) 02:29, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

- [Ok, don't want to spend another thirty minutes trying to write a diplomatic response, so I'll just cut-and-pase.]
- Quickly checking the edit history, I see that you've added the notes to Gerald Flood and John Barrowman on the 17th and 18th--after I pointed out how sexist it was to single out Catherine Tate. Oh wait, found one that predates that--Kamelion was edited in July. Wasn't that about the time Tate was announced? Up till now I just assumed it was an honest mistake, a simple faux paus, but you're starting to cast doubts on that.
- Look, the point is that it was a small error. Everyone makes mistakes, so don't take it too personally. I wasn't casting judgment on you--hell, I was only criticising the statement in-and-of-iteself. I'm just saying that some people will find this little tiny thing offensive because Tate was noted first (and then all the males were retroactively included), so be careful. DonQuixote (talk) 21:46, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

- Look, I'm not trying to make you out to be sexist--hence you made the offence unintentionally. I'm just cautioning you that some people will find the comment sexist. It's just a small faux pas that doesn't reflect on you. If I were to tell you that gazpacho soup is meant to be served cold and not hot, I'm not disparaging you. DonQuixote (talk) 15:42, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

- Traditionally, society dictated that women older than the protagonist were all to be maternal characters rather than companions, friends or love interests--this being reserved for younger women. Any deviation from that formula was considered to be unnatural. Conversely, it wasn't considered unnatural for men to have older friends or companions. Therefore, pointing out that Tate is older than Tennant, even innocently, emphasises it as being "unnatural". And that is why some people may find it sexist. - You're probably right, this argument will probably go nowhere. But the point remains that I didn't come to the defence of a male actor because I didn't have to. No one mentioned the fact that John Barrowman was older than Tennant when it was announced that he would return as a companion. Strangely enough, the issue only came up when Tate was announced as returning. These are the facts. You can do with them as you will. DonQuixote (talk) 05:31, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Astrid Peth
An editor has nominated Astrid Peth, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Astrid Peth and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 16:59, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Doctor Who pictures
Hello Wolf of Fenric. I see that you are busy adding pictures to Doctor Who articles, including some which the slaughter of a few months ago took away. I would like to suggest that you might want to add the word "above" to the phrase "as seen in the picture". I think it might help to explain what picture you are talking about. My thought is that some readers might think that you are talking about a pictures that might have been seen onscreen. I would also put the sentence in parentheses but that is just me. Please don't feel obligated to do this - it is only a suggestion. Let me just add many, many, many (is that enough yet?) (no let me just add one more) many thanks for getting pictures back into these articles. It is much appreciated!! MarnetteD | Talk 04:34, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry for the lateness of my reply it took me awhile to go back and find an example. If you look at the edit that I made here [1] you will see what I did back in March to try and rescue a picture. I hope that this helps and keep up the good work. MarnetteD | Talk 04:56, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
