[edit] Biography

[edit] 1988-1990

Wohnout was formed in Prague in 1988, one year before the end of Russian occupation within twin brothers Homola (guitars, vocals), bassist and a drummer.[1] The style of their music at the time was mostly punk inspired, but there are no recordings left from this period.[1] Wohnout played as noisy and brutal as they could.[1] Lyrics were such as: (translated from Czech original) "Shit reposes on the street and nobody gives a shit".[1] Their only concert was canceled in the middle of the show by the organisator because of excessive vulgarism.[1] In 1990 Wohnout split up, because in the "new age" after 1989 democratic revolution each member of Wohnout found work somewhere else.[1]

[edit] 1995 Reunion-Present

Brothers Homola were interested in making a band again and reformed in 1995 with new bassist Zemánek and a new drummer Fenek.[1] Wohnout became a band of high-class instrumentalists.[1] They had first concert in 1996, and recorded an album Cundalla in 1998, which was released in 1999 by Sony Music/Bonton.[1] Wohnout's poularity started to raise from 2001ˈs Zlý Noty Na Večeři (english:"Evil Notes For Dinner").[1] This album created their future melodic experimental rock/metal style with positive atmosphere and catchy riffs, which are still typical for Wohnout.[1] The next album Pedro Se Vrací (English: "Pedro Is Coming") was released in 2002 and Rande s Panem Bendou (English: "A Date With Mr. Benda") in 2004.[1] Wohnout became one of the best known rock bands in Czech Republic, had some tours, concerted on festivals around the Europe and recorded several music videos.[1] In 2006 Wohnout released Polib si Dědu (English: "Kiss Oneself a Greybeard" (special guest for the song "Činely" was Finnish metal band Waltari) and in 2007 was Ahoj Dědo Tour (English: "Hallo Greybeard Tour").[1]

[edit] Style and Lyrics

Early career (before 1989) was inspired by hardcore bands such as Dead Kennedys. Later when Wohnout was creating their original style with their first albums, they made a decision they don't want to "cackle" in English, about negative things or romantics and love, although the tended to play metal. Wohnout's lyrics are often about social (or political) problems and certain kinds of people or events performed with strong ironic and humorous tone, which can be heard also on non-standard vocals.
