[edit] Popups
Hi! Thanks for your help in RC patrolling. Be a bit careful with the use of the popups and make sure you revert to the right version. Here you wound up reinstating something which probably should not be reinstated. --Casper2k3 04:53, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
- I saw that after the fact. I'm still trying to get the hang of popups. What a coincidence that earlier today, I corrected one of your revisions, and now you corrected one of mine. WODUP 04:59, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Female ejaculation
I noticed the note you placed on the talk page of the person who recently added the link to the FE page. What about it is commercial? Anchoress 16:03, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- The special offers link at the top contains the commercial content. "Here I'll be listing all the sales and different pages I recommend you check out at some point." The site then links to two commercial video rental web sites. WODUP (talk) 16:10, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- As I said on the FE page, that is not a valid reason to exclude. Anchoress 16:11, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
-
- (This reply is also posted at Talk:Female ejaculation) Okay. If the link goes in, then it goes in (per WP policy). I feel, though, that the better solution would be to include the information from the web site in the article. WODUP (talk) 16:18, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

I have reverted your revert on the Hot six page. the information that was added is in fact relevant to the novel in question. I will admit that i could probably be better presented though. Kevmin 07:23, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] St. Pius X Catholic High School (DeKalb County, Georgia)
You say its vandalism, but I believe the edit you are refering to was an additinonal section I made for the St. Pius X Highschool clearly under the title of "Criticism". [edit] Re: The Message on my Anon Page
Yeah, sorry about that. A few of us here are trying to determine if AntiVandalBot has an "Anon Bias" by randomly selecting and vandalising articles, then testing the bot's response time for both reversion and and notification. So far its seems to us that AntiVandalBot is somewhat faster to pounce on anon edits, but not as quick to leave messages on thier talk pages about it; however, that result needs to be taken with a grain of salt because we have not yet controlled for other factors that could be effecting the response time. 129.108.96.221 23:13, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] problem with edit of Marshan page
In September I put up a page for my band at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshan Before I put it there, there was a disambiguation page. As the links on that page were not exact mayches for Marshan, but merely similar terms, I assumed that I should just replace that page with my exact match. You recently reverted the page back to the original disambiguation page. I'm not a wikifiddler so maybe I did something wrong, but it didn't seem like it to me. What should I be doing? There are no other exact matches for my term (Marshan) so should that page not show my band's information? Boosy 13:12, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- There are two things we need to discuss. The first is disambiguation pages, and the second is writing an article about your band.
- Wikipedia:Disambiguation and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages) tell how disambiguation pages should be set up. There should be a disambiguation page for Marshan because it can have more than one meaning, and the links that are listed fall under misspellings and places in Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages).
- The first item on Wikipedia's list of bad article ideas is: Yourself or your organization - including a band of which you are a member or employee. Check out Wikipedia:Don't create articles about yourself and Wikipedia:Notability (music).
- If you need anything else or have any more questions, let me know, and I'll try my best to help. Thanks for your help on the encyclopedia. WODUP talk/contribs 07:26, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. I have updated the disambiguation page with an extra link for Marshan. I also updated the page with touring information that meets the notability requirements listed in one of the articles you listed. One think I am not sure about - because there is already a disambiguation page with the name Marshan, I had to create the new page with the name MarshanRock, but when the page is displayed the title should really just be Marshan rather than MarshanRock - how can I alter this?
Thanks Boosy 15:17, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
- Good news: I believe that your band meets the notability requirements, and I moved MarshanRock to Marshan (band) to meet page naming conventions. You have decided not to follow Wikipedia:Don't create articles about yourself, but it's only a guideline and exceptions can be made.
- Bad news: The content seems to be copied from the band's web site or the band's MySpace page, and those sources don't give permission to copy, distribute, and/or modify the content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License. I had to replace the page with the {{Copyvio}} template. Either the sources need to have licenses compatible with Wikipedia, or the articles need to be rewritten so that there is no copyright violation. Please read and follow the instructions on the article page. WODUP talk/contribs 05:43, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

- First of all, welcome. You're being bold with your contributions, and that's great! Check out Wikipedia:Vandalism to learn about what is and is not vandalism. I see that the IP user corrected capitalization and removed a section about the city's politics. It doesn't seem that that section was written in a neutral point of view. The user's edit summary was "Attempted to clean up this poorly written article". I don't see a personal dislike of the content. Please see the five pillars that define Wikipedia's character, and when dealing with other Wikipedians, please assume good faith. As you have read or will read in the five pillars, this is a collaboratively written encyclopedia licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License, and by editing, you are allowing those edits to be copied and revised by anyone. No one needs your express permission to add to or remove your contributions. I'm going to copy this section to your user talk page to make sure that you have a chance to read it. You had flagged my Marshan page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshan_%28band%29) a few weeks ago with a copyright violation. - I saw that the license changed. An administrator needs to resolve the issue now. Even though it's no longer a copyright problem, it doesn't read much like an encyclopedia article. You might try to wtite it so that it follows the perfect article. WODUP contribstalk 02:57, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Space food sticks
WODUP you are way out of line deleting space food sticks. 1. I can't see the page you deleted - how do I know someone didn't vandalize it and you have deleted MY hard work?? 2. I only took one sentence from the "fan page" which was advertising copy from the original product launch. that's not copyrighted material - that is historical fact - historical facts are not copyright-able. and I think I did site my source as the fan page.
This whole thing really makes me angry because you show a complete dis-regard for my TIME and EFFORT.
I'm not the only person who edited that page. I did start it.
I start things up - I don't flesh things out. That's what I do. There is nothing wrong with that.
I hope writing this enlightens you a little to my point of view. I'm sure you must think you are doing the right thing but I disagree. --cda 21:47, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'll address your concerns, but I need to remind you of one of the entries under the Policies section on my talk page: Assume good faith. I know that right now you're a bit upset, and that's okay. We all get angry every now and then, but you say that I show a complete disregard for your time and effort. That is not the case at all. We're both here to write an encyclopedia, and I do appreciate your contributions to the project.
- I did not delete the article. Angela, and administrator and bureaucrat, deleted it, as seen in the deletion log. I nominated it for speedy deletion because most of it was copied from http://www.spacefoodsticks.com/spacefood/history.html. That satisfies the speedy deletion criterion G12: blatant copyright infringement.
- Only administrators can see the deleted article, and I'm not sure that they'll provide you a copy since it was speedied as a copyvio, but you can ask one of the admins in Category:Wikipedia administrators who will provide copies of deleted articles.
- If I remember correctly, there was only one other contributor, who added a small addition to the article. It was not vandalized, and if it were and there was a good version in the page history, Angela or I would have reverted to it.
- If I removed the copied text from the article, I don't think there would have then been sufficient context, and it may have been speedily deleted under criterion A1.
- You are right in that history can not be copyrighted. Specific accounts, however, can be. The text from the web page was copyrighted. There's nothing to say someone can't paraphrase that content and use it as a source.
- I hope I've addressed your concerns. Feel free to talk to me about any issues, or you can ask Angela on her talk page. Oh, and be sure to refer to the article as Space Food Sticks, with the first letter of each word capitalized. Any other capitalization results in a different page title and may be more difficult for others to find. Wodup 03:57, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
I don't understand why you didn't just take out the text you found offensive. The entry, the dates, the manufacturer, the categories - they were all correct. The sentence I took from the fan page "non-frozen balanced energy snack in rod form containing nutritionally balanced amounts of carbohydrate, fat and protein," is just a part of history. It is not the fanpage author's writing. And how can I put that in my own words, that makes no sense at all. The interesting part is the wording that they used.cda 14:33, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- Two examples for you: Salem (cigarette) - pretty much similar to my Space Food Sticks entry. A kind of obscure brand name product, entry includes dates of manufacture, company info, the categories R.J. Reynolds brands;1956 introductions;Cigarette brands;Brand name products stubs and the entry also includes their slogan "You can take Salem out of the country, but...you can't take the country out of Salem." My point is that Salem cigarettes are including in Wikipedia with no problem. Why is something that I enter that is very similar in format not OK?! Here's another example: Slim Jim. How is the Slim Jim entry different from my entry of Space Food Sticks?--cda 16:58, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- The article Space Food Sticks appeared to have mostly been copied from that fan page. Regarding Salem (cigarette), this page claims a copyright on the text of the article, however, the text of the article was added collaboratively over time by several users, not all at one time by one user. If the text that appears on the web site were added to the article at one time by one user, I would guess that it was a copyright violation and would tag for speedy deletion. As it is, I believe that that web site is wrong for copying our article and not following the terms of the GNU FDL.
-
- Slim Jim does appear to have been copied from somewhere. Right now, the article very closely matches the product description at http://www.amazon.com/Slim-Deli-Style-Pepperoni-Pack/dp/B000G1BTM6 and may need to be rewritten. Amazon.com says that they've sold that item since June, 2004. Our article on Slim Jim was created in November, 2004. I've replaced the page with the {{copyvio}} template and listed the article at Wikipedia:Copyright problems#2006-12-31.
-
- Also, if you're looking for your article to be undeleted, you need to ask Angela, or if that doesn't work, list it on Wikipedia:Deletion review. Wodup 22:04, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Slim Jim
You're welcome. I didn't think it really needed to be tagged in the first place, as the topic was notable and the problems were easily fixable; at the same time, I realized that put the onus on me, as it was "easily fixable." I'm not certain that Amazon.com had exclusive rights on that text, as it seemed not that professionally written.
Happy editing! - CobaltBlueTony 14:02, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I think if you had manners you would fix your own mistakes. --cda 23:59, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- I thought I had made it clear, but I'll try again.
-
- I thought it was copyrighted.
- I nominated it for deletion.
- An administrator agreed and deleted it.
- Also,
- I am not an administrator.
- I cannot delete and undelete pages (I do not have the delete and undelete buttons).
- I did not delete the article you created.
- User:Angela is the administrator that deleted the article.
- Talk to her, list it on Wikipedia:Deletion review, or talk to another administrator (Perhaps on the Administrators' Noticeboard). Only they can delete and undelete pages.
- If there's anything else, you probably should take my advice above, since there's nothing else I can do except tell you that there's nothing else I can do. Wodup 01:27, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
The only part text that was not an exact copy of another website is "Space Food Sticks were snacks developed for space travel by Dr. Howard Bauman, for The Pillsbury Company." - an unsourced statement that isn't an article by itself. If there is any reliable source (not a fan site) that backs up this statement, I suggest it be added to the space food article. Angela. 19:40, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Speedying of MOTD Archives
You're right that none of the criterion directly relate to this situation (unless we take it as a broad interpretation of G7, with the MOTD community being the author) but there was already a clear consensus at the MOTD board. I'm not a Wikipedia:Process wonk I'm afraid so I don't really mind if it's not been followed where we can use common sense. I mean there are always WP:SNOW and WP:IAR, as you note, but I don't see any need to invoke them paticularly. --Robdurbar 08:47, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

- The last time I checked, Wikipedia was the 12th most visited web site in the world according to Alexa; we're getting better at this encyclopedia thing every day. I do know, however, that the way we handle newcomers could use some work. New users don't want to read every policy and guideline when they get here; I've been here almost six months, and I don't think I know them all.
- I'm not sure that that link you added is helpful at this time. If the site supports more listings in more locations (it only listed gun and rock shows in Colorado), it may be added again later, but you might want to leave a note on the articles' talk pages to see if anyone objects at that time.
- Also, I never said you were a vandal. Here at Wikipedia, we assume good faith. I do hope you decide to stay and contribute. If you need anything, feel free to ask me on my talk page, ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or place
{{helpme}}
and your question on your own talk page, and someone will reply to it there. Wodup 21:27, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Images in sigs
Yeah, my sig came into being before that proclamation. I've mostly gotten a free pass because the sig still only takes up a single line in the edit box, unlike the huge 4, 5 or even 8 line sigs that were the focus of so many rfc's a few months ago. Anyway, the point to all this is thanks for the message, but in the lack of any significant outcry, I'm just gonna let it stay as is. I dont have any issues with people refactoring talk and discussion pages to eliminate it if they so desire (Cyde's solution, as I call it). Thanks for bringing it up, however. -Mask
- I do see where you started using the signature while images were discouraged, but not to be avoided. That's fine. I do thank you for getting back to me about it. Cheers! Wodup 01:13, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] .cmbl
Is the improvements i have made to the .cmbl page good enough to qualify it as an article and if not what more do i need to add to make it good enough?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheGuyInTheIronMask (talk • contribs) 11:03, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- First, please sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your message. Second, a topic is notable if it has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works from sources that are reliable and independent of the subject itself and of each other. .cmbl wasn't, and was tagged for speedy deletion and deleted. I didn't see it since I tagged it, so I don't know what improvements you made, but the article mustn't have asserted the notability of the file extension. Wodup 20:05, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] MacKenzieHeartsu
I put {{hangon}} on it. This is that extremely popular YouTube series from last month with the girl who got all pissed off about getting the red car when she wanted a blue one that turned out to be a marketing campaign for Domino's Pizza. It has been the subject of non-trivial coverage.
I have never been slapped with a speedy tag before ... no wonder it was a bot. Remove it, please ... I have been on here long enough and with enough edits that I know what articles would be notable and survive a deletion vote, and this is one of them. Daniel Case 06:06, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- Okay. With your references, I see that it is notable. I'm not sure why it gets its own article (named after a YouTube user name) instead of being included on the Domino's Pizza article. Let's continue this discussion on Talk:MacKenzieHeartsu. Also, this is not a bot account. Wodup 06:32, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] High School Fair Use Images
You seem to think that I cannot use images of two logos of Chicago high schools. Do you really think that these schools will mind me using those images? -KingpinE7 06:10, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know if those schools would mind their logos being used, but as long as they're not licensed under a free license, it doesn't matter. I'm sorry, but that's the policy and the law. Wodup 06:49, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Marcus Hager
You need to be careful when using the {{db-Attack}} template on pages accusing people of homosexuality. Unless you personally know that the individual is NOT a homosexual, they could very well take offence that an editor thought being called a homosexual was "disparaging". This particular page could be just as easily speedied with a {{db-nonsence}} tag. NipokNek 11:30, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't tag the article as an attack page because it mentions that he's homosexual. I tagged it because it seems to be an attack page. I'm not going to type it here, but the first sentence in the second paragraph is what sealed it for me. Wodup 11:36, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- I realize that the page in general can be considered an attack page, I was only suggesting how it could be perceived by the subject of the page. NipokNek 11:42, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for reverting my talk page!
Hi. Thanks for reverting my talk page from "Johnny the Vandal". You might not be aware of this, but any user attacking both my user page and that of User:Hephaestos, or several groups (Crass, The Offspring, Social Distortion) are automatically assumed to be sockpuppets of the notorious vandal "Johnny the Vandal" and are to be permanently blocked from editing on sight. Use the {{sockblock|Johnny the Vandal}} template to leave a note on the talk page. Thanks, again! -- Arwel (talk) 21:48, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User Warnings
Please don't skip warning levels as you did here. (from level 2 to level 4). If a user doesn't receive the proper hierarchy of warnings they may not be blocked when they are reported at AIV. Mr.Z-mantalk¢Review! 23:04, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- I don't feel that it is always necessary to give four warnings before blocking a vandal. Wikipedia:Vandalism#Warnings says that the warning templates need not be used in succession. In this situation, I didn't feel that a level 3 warning would've stopped the vandalism (I find now that the user continued to vandalise that page after the level 4 warning and had to be blocked). I left a level 4 warning to let the user know the seriousness of what was happening and what the next consequence would be. Even skipping the level 3 warning, I feel that the user was sufficiently warned. Wodup 23:21, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

- Please use user talk pages to communicate with other users and sign and date your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~). Using the talk page is the only way to make the other user see the yellow "You've got new messages" bar.
- That IP was blocked and the page was protected by an administrator. In the future, you can report users who have vandalised after a final warning at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism and you can request protection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection . [edit] Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Verdict
You said: "Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Verdict has a few socks of Martin181 categories. Since Martin181 is a sock of Verdict, would it be okay to recategorise the socks and suspected socks of Martin181 as socks and suspected socks of Verdict? It may be confusing to others who the sockpuppeteer and sockpuppets are otherwise. I started to do this, but then found that there was more than just one category that would need attention."
- Yes, this would be perfectly fine. I've been meaning to do it myself but I haven't had the time yet. Please feel free to do this yourself or once I get some spare time, I'll do it. We initially didn't settle on which was the sockpuppeteer account and so various admins blocked the accounts as sockpuppets of one or the other. --Yamla 03:17, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Chaparral Middle School (Moorpark)
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Chaparral Middle School (Moorpark), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] Elkhart, Indiana
Regarding the Elkhart, Indiana article, you said that it had too many embedded lists. Would you recommend that I re-work it into more of an article form? Right now it's more of a headings with bulet points deal. Thanks for the help, I'm somewhat new on here and not sure whats standard. Acsmith3 08:01, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Patrick McKenna
While I didn't make the edit in question, and I can only assume one of my roommates did, I would like to point out that the Pussy, France article does list Patrick McKenna as a resident. This was not vandalism, as you seem to assume, but an attempt to sync the articles. I would assume that in a biography, current place of residence is considered appropriate information. While I have no been able to locate an article on google that seems to list Patrick McKenna and Pussy, France together, the problem is in the Pussy, France article, not in a specific action taken by this IP address (though, to be fair, she probably should have realized that the actor and the caterer were not the same person, and that the Patrick McKenna in the Pussy, France article should be delinked), if not deleted. 70.131.83.21 07:44, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Oldboy image
== Seung-Hui Cho ==
Hello. I've removed Image:Oldboy hammer.jpg from Seung-Hui Cho. The image was uploaded as a fair-use image, however inclusion in Seung-Hui Cho doesn't qualify as fair use. WODUP 23:35, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- How so? I gave legitimate rationale. Criteria is as follows,
-
- the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
- the nature of the copyrighted work;
- the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
- the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
- The image fits all those criteria, and was used in several news programs including CNN, to illustrate the comparison. See this source from MSNBC, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18207904/site/newsweek/?from=rss
- The two images are set side by side prominently. The comparison is important I believe, and does not intend to infringe Oldboy's copyrights. Malamockq 02:16, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
-
- My problem was that when I read the section earlier, I didn't see that the image significantly contributed to the article; my mistake. Going back to it, I do see that it follows the Wikipedia non-free content policy (not just the legal factors for fair use). Again, I'm very sorry for the trouble. WODUP 05:33, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nicolas Anelka
Why did I receive a warning for removing something untrue on Anelka's page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by NumberAte (talk • contribs)
- That was how I responded when I saw that your very first edit added a personal attack into an article and your second edit removed without an edit summary the paragraph into which you inserted the personal attack.
- Now that you mention your objection to that paragraph, I've done some research and I found a few sources that make claims similar to that that was in the article. The Orlando Sentinel sports producer Brant Parsons and tribalfootball.com both report that DiarioSport reports that Nicolas Anelka may return to Arsenal FC. The top Google search result for DiarioSport is www.sport.es which has this story which does seem to say that he might play for Arsenal. I must say, though, I don't know if sport.es qualifies as a reliable source.
- Since this is a biography of a living person and there's doubt about whether this paragraph should stay, I'll remove it and leave a note on Talk:Nicolas Anelka.
- Two final comments: please don't make any more personal attacks, and please do sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). WODUP 09:45, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Thankyou for your concern that my sites article can be seen as advertising. In no way am I advertising my product, and I know it needs to be reworded. Can you please wait 24 hours for me to properly upload my pictures to my site, particularly those of the Eleanor Schonell Bridge, of which pictures are limited? (especially those taken during its construction) Thankyou, and have a good day! --AustraliaOnline 01:58, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- I suggested that it be deleted because the article didn't assert notability, and it's already been deleted. Like C.Fred said on Talk:Australia Online, based on your username, there might be a conflict of interest, and we do advise against creating articles about yourself, your friends, your band, your company, etc. If the subject warrants an article, one will eventually be created. [edit] SISTER CINDY MAHONEY
I don't understand the reason why Cynthia L. Mahoney was chosen over the more commonly used (and better known) Sister Cindy Mahoney. As a nun, she is entitled to that title, regardless of denomination. Please explain. Thanks.La Strada 19:33, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- As seen in the page log, Fresheneesz moved the page to her formal name. For more information about why, you'll need to ask that user directly. Cut-and-paste moves are not allowed an any circumstances because they do not reflect the page histories (which are important for copyright purposes).
- That said, I just looked around Wikipedia and Google for more information on what she's called, and I do see that she's more often referred to as just Sister Cindy Mahoney. I checked the What links here feature and see that only one other article (David Worby) links to this article, and it links to Sister Cindy Mahoney. If you'd like to move the page, you'll need to make a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves. WODUP 20:08, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

- (Link to self: Taller 13 Arquitectos) The reason we discourage writing about organizations with which you are related is because that can create a conflict of interest. If your firm is non-trivially covered in multiple reliable secondary sources, that's a very good way to demonstrate notability. You might want to create a request at Wikipedia:Articles for creation. I wasn't suggesting any hacking, I don't think anybody is lame enough to go to that much trouble to make a junk article. I think you're probably correct in saying I forgot to log out. I'll be more carefull from now on. One last thing though, how do you see from what I.P address the edit came from? Thanks. Kokiri kid 04:20, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

From User talk:TenPoundHammer: Regarding your revert and edit summary, I understand your concern. What do you think of http://music.aol.com/video/online/brad-paisley/1933391? It's not likely to change (as far as I know), but do you think that the 30 second commercial is an objectionable amount of advertising (links normally to be avoided #5)? WODUP 02:11, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Regarding a link to his AOL video from Online (Brad Paisley song) - AOL Video's usually frowned upon here too, as is YouTube. Ten Pound Hammer • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps•Review?) 02:18, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

- I understand why YouTube is frowned upon, it's user-contributed and sometimes contains copyright violations. I don't think AOL video is user-contributed, and I do think that there is an agreement between the artist and AOL to host that music video. A search of aol video in the talk, user talk, Wikipedia, and Wikipedia talk namespaces doesn't show me that AOL video is prohibited. Could you explain your reasons a little more? [edit] Wikipedia:Request an account
I have 2 questions relating to this, because I'd like to help.
1-Do you have to have your e-mail address? I don't want vandals to send angry e-mails.
2-Do you have to be an admin?
Thanks! Cheers, JetLover (talk) 04:20, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hello. No, you don't have to have e-mail enabled to create accounts for others at WP:ACC, but the people who request accounts need to list one so they can get their passwords. You don't need to be an admin to create accounts, but only admins can create accounts that are similar to existing accounts. Hope this helps; if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. 32, and wasn't sure where to !vote, so that's why you got singled out for the tough questions (and it seems to have got you a lot of well-deserved supports). Just letting you know in case you were thinking I held something against you and was trying to make you fail by asking you pain-in-the-ass questions :) Cheers, and good luck, Daniel 01:45, 25 August 2007 (UTC)- Thank you. I agree that the answers to 1 and 2 are only fair when compared to other candidates who write paragraph after paragraph about what they've done or what they plan to do (I didn't think 3 was that bad), but that's how things are. I figured that's why you asked, and I thank you for asking those questions and not simply opposing. - You have a couple of options. You can cut-and-paste threads to a subpage. This is what I do; there are some rather nice bots that can do this for you. You can allow your talk page to fill up and then move it to a subpage. You can also let it fill up, clear it, and post a link to the permanent version of the talk page. More detailed instructions are at Help:Archiving a talk page. If you have any other questions, you know where to find me. Cheers! WODUP 17:26, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RFA
I've added a question to your RFA. There's no need for you to answer it if you don't want to, as it's a rather tricky complex question and might possibly jeopardise potential supports (as it asks about specific conduct of a user), I'd understand. Of course on the flip side I would probably base my final decision on your answer to that question, since the username doppelganger thing is relatively insignificant. Congratulations, I have closed your RfA as successful and you are now a sysop! If you have any questions about adminship, feel free to ask me. Please consider messaging me on IRC for access to the #wikipedia-en-admins channel. Good luck! --Deskana (apples) 10:32, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

- Congratulations. Don't hesitate to ask anyone if you need advice, there's lots to go around. (If for some reason you want advice from a former admin, you know where to ask.) And also I apologise, I totally forgot about your RFA and the question I asked (until I saw Deskana delist your RFA as successful)... count it as a past-the-close switch-to-neutral. ;) – Chacor 11:01, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Epping Boys High School
Hi. I ran into an edit conflict here, but quite frankly I'd spent too much time converting to the infobox to just abandon it. Sorry for any edits of yours that I overwrote. (And I didn't even think about the Chuck Norris thing, although given the amount of vandalism I should have.) Pairadox 07:33, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. You did a better job of cleaning it up than I did. WODUP 07:34, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Question
How come you created the account Wolfmaan even though there was a guy named Wolfman, and how come you created the account You know who when there was a user called You know who.? Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 20:25, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Wolfman is a user who retired about 15 months ago; I don't think he'll be back. You Know Who. was created about a year ago and hasn't been used. WODUP 20:27, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Very Confused
I recently started an article about Markler and it was deleted. The rules regarding relevance or notability are vague and Im not sure what fits this criteria. The comment said that it was an non notable website? It's not a website its a software company that is part of a new technology trend in the real estate industry. What needs to be included in the article for it to be considered valid. I used other articles about companies as a reference to how to write about this company. Please Help
Tluckett 04:17, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hello there. You're correct that the subject of the article was a company, not a website, and I apologize for the incorrect deletion summary. Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) says that a company is notable if it has been the subject of coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject. That could be coverage in a news article, magazine article, an industry journal, or something like that. If the subject meets that notability requirement, you can recreate the article with information about how it meets that guideline. If the company doesn't meet our notability standards, there are still lots of ways to help the encyclopedia; take a look at Wikipedia:Contributing to Wikipedia. Cheers, WODUP 19:59, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Monobook
I feel flattered. —[[Animum | talk]] 01:51, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- You should. I'm only trying a few of these. :) WODUP 01:55, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
function welcomeACC() { f = document.editform, t = f.wpTextbox1; t.value += "== " + "Welcome!" +" ==\n" + "{{subst:" + "User:WODUP/Welcome after creating a requested account}} \~\~\~\~"; f.wpMinoredit.checked = true; f.wpSummary.value = "Welcome to Wikipedia!"; f.submit(); } addOnloadHook(function() { if(wgCanonicalNamespace == "User_talk" && wgAction == "edit" && document.title.indexOf("\(section\)") == -1) { addPortletLink('p-cactions', 'javascript:welcomeACC()', 'welcome new acc', '', ''); } });
If you don't want a tab, you can just change p-cactions to p-personal to make into a top-of-screen link (where the links to Special:Userlogout and Special:Preferences are). Another alternative is to add it to the toolbox; just ask me about how to do it if you want. :-) Hope that helps! —[[Animum | talk]] 13:58, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- Awesome! Thank you. WODUP 18:08, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Notifying authors of pending speedy deletions
Can do. I've done that in the past and still do when I can, but there is so much vandalism that goes in a span of seconds! --EndlessDan 14:51, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. It might help to use a program like NPWatcher to review and tag articles and notify authors with just a couple of clicks. Cheers, WODUP 14:53, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Malls Deletion
Could you please explain to me why many of the mall pages in Michigan are being deleted? They are mostly very informative and would be very good articles for research for size and footage and anchors etc. I re-created Lakeview Square mall in Battle Creek, make it better and more informative and it was still deleted. Please explain why we can not have these pages so that they can be linked from city sites etc. --Vertigo315 02:29, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I don't know anything about all of the Michigan mall articles, but I can tell you about Lakeview Square Mall. As I said earlier, I deleted it because it was a recreation of the article that was deleted as a result of this Articles for Deletion discussion. Our speedy deletion criteria include recreations of material deleted as a result of a deletion discussion. WODUP 02:47, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
