Why I'm leaving Wikipedia
I've decided to drastically cut back on my participation in Wikipedia after becoming finally fed up enough with certain attitudes in the community that I had been encountering more and more. Specifically, I have concluded that there is too much systemic bias in favor of deletionism and all its various tentacles. Now, there's pruning, and then there's scorched earth, which is what this has become. It has always been harder to create than to destroy. When I first began editing Wikipedia, I saw it as a place to be creative and to help expand all knowledge, including the trivia and minutiae that give HUMAN CULTURE relevance and context. I see now that for all the paeans to anti-elitism and knowledge for all that are spouted on this website (WP:IAR), Wikipedia has nevertheless formed its own brand of elitism, manifest by those who treat non-binding guidelines like WP:N as holy dogma, and everything else as sins against nature. So fuck it. The mission of Wikipedia, through its currently flawed execution, no longer interests me. I may come back and make an occasional maintenance/anti-vandal edit, but my days of dedicated editing are over.
