WKLO-TV (defunct) was an UHF television station in Louisville, Kentucky that operated from October 18, 1953 to April 20, 1954. It operated on channel 21 as a DuMont affiliate[1], using the personnel and facilities of WKLO-AM. Since very few TVs at that time could receive an UHF signal, WKLO was at an disadvantage against the two existing VHF channels. Advertisers were reluctant to purchase commercials and the station suspended operations in the spring of 1954 after just six months in business. On July 13, 1956 WKLO asked the FCC to allocate VHF Channel 7 to Louisville rather than be retained in Evansville, Indiana (WTVW) on a reserved basis, but this never occurred.[2] The transmitter site and tower were eventually used for WKLO-FM in 1962.[3] Channel 21 was not used again in Louisville until 1985 by WBNA.[4]
