WJQR/105.5FM (Channel 288) was a radio station that broadcast from south of St. Augustine, Florida, from 1995 to 1999. Known as "Hot Country 105.5," it was licensed to St. Augustine Beach, Florida, and was owned by Ken & Eileen Stein along with its co-owned AM sister station WAOC/1420AM.
Both stations were sold in 1999 with the FM station switching from Modern Country to Groovin' Oldies as well as the Urban Oldies format found primarily on the AM band. The groovin' oldies was 1999's answer to the Disco format of 1978. The Groovin' Oldies format was one of a string of failed formats tried around the millennium by radio executives nationwide to find "the next big thing." This graveyard of formats also includes FM Talk, which is more commonly known as Hot Talk on the AM band, as well as '80s oldies.
At this point WJQR switched to WYGV to match its simulcast with WXGV (formerly WFBJ)/105.3 of Fernandina Beach, Florida. The stations have been linked since, becoming a smooth jazz simulcast in later years.
