About the college
Witchford Village College is described as an 'innovative'[citation needed] school, due to the former head teacher introducing new ideas to the school. These include:
- A house system - Students are placed in one of four houses in which competitive activities can take place between houses.
- The three lesson day - An idea in which less lesson time is lost in transition between lessons, and that students only pack three lessons worth of equipment. This has since been reverted to the traditional six lessons per day as of September 2007.
- A vertical form group system - students are placed in forms which have a selection of students from each year group to encourage a wider mix of students, with the exception of Year 11's, who are placed in separate horizontal form groups and are removed from the house system.
Catchment Area
Witchford College serves students living in the following settlements:
Though many students that attend live in these areas, the College attracts students in places further afield such as:
Student's facilities
The college offers many facilities for students not only for learning, but for help with certain personal issues, such as bullying.
Out of school hours learning (OSHL)
Students have access to after-school clubs every night of the week but on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the college provides a late bus for the students to travel home on after the normal school buses have departed. Many of these clubs are sports clubs, for students to represent the school in sports such as football, rugby union, and netball. Revision sessions for various subjects take place as well.
Student support services (S3)
S3 is a room which students can talk to friendly adults and school prefects about problems, be it in college or outside, and they can be sorted out. If the students are being bullied or need advice but do not want to talk to an adult about it, they are free to talk to a student in year 11 from the 'Here to Hear' group.
The green box
The Green Box is a small building near to the school which is designed for children with Special Educational Needs who can go through normal school work but not in mainstream education.
Adult education
The college offers adult education classes for adults to learn a variety of subjects, including GCSEs, A-Levels and certain diplomas, such as City and Guilds courses, and NVQs. These classes take place weekday evenings and weekends
Partner schools
Witchford Village College has two partner schools, with which student exchange trips can take place. The schools are as follows:
- Germany Hanna Arendt Gymnasium, near Hiedelberg.
- Netherlands Anna van Rijn School.
