Talk:Withyham
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It seems a great pity that, with the wealth of information on the first of the two external links, there is not a great deal more to add about Withyham!. Nothing is said about Buckhurst, the seat of the Earl De La Warr, for example; and although one correspondent on the article is the webmaster of the parish church, that there is nothing said about the 17th century fire! I am sure that this doesn't need to be a Stub Peter Shearan 18:58, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Update
I am currently working on expanding this page to tell more of the history of WIthyham. As a resident i was disappointed to discover the lack of information, and now hope to rectify that.

[edit] Position of article 31/3/2008
We now seem to have gone completely overboard with all that information about the church and its history! When I wrote the above note, I was considering that we might include more about the village and particularly the civil parish (Notes here) itself: its location in an AONB; in fact anything but history! I am afraid that there is a very thriving historical society in the village, who have scoured many ancient documents to reach the info given in the first two external links: surely all we need to do is to pick out the main thrust of it all, and give the references for those folk who need more. There are 42 civil parishes (CP) in the Wealden District, and IMO the CP articles should all try to look much the same as each other. Peter Shearan (talk) 14:46, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Rewrite of article
In view of the above I have rewritten this article. It means a huge reduction, I realise, but what was there seemed very repetitive (especially the timeline) and covered some details which can be picked up from the reference I have put at the head of the History section, should anyone need to delve into the minutiae! I would have written to the editor who added it all, but he has no talk page. Peter Shearan (talk) 05:57, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
