[edit] Allusion in title
What is the basis for assuming that the title is a reference to Emily Dickinson? I would think it could equally easily be an allusion to Aristotle's description of man as a "featherless biped". - Jmabel | Talk 02:38, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
He mentions the poem in one of the short stories in the collection. ~ 24.168.57.47 04:09, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
"Hope is the thing with feathers. - Emily Dickinson" is printed on the second page, before the chapter listing. Additionally, the first short story features the line "How wrong Emily Dickinson was! The thing with feathers has turned out to be my nephew; I must take him to a specialist in Zurich." Froglars the frog (talk) 08:40, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
