User talk:Wirkman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Greetings. My name is Wirkman Virkkala. Both names are of Finnish origin, the former appearing in my father's family tree from the 1540s, apparently the Friesian version of what became the family name. My most famous relatives are the late Tapio Wirkkala, one of Finland's most famous designers, and my great uncle Oscar, an inventor of logging machinery and equipment.
I am by profession an editor. I've written a number of articles, chiefly for libertarian periodicals, one of which has been linked to (by someone else) in the Paleolibertarian article on Wikipedia.
My interests and knowledge range from literature and music to philosophy and economics, with huge and obscure chunks of history to go with these interests. I have contributed to the Francis Marion Crawford and James Branch Cabell entries, and have, as of this writing, written one new article, on Crawford's excellent novel Saracinesca. I hope to add new articles on a number of inventors, artists, writers, philosophers, social scientists, and political activists in the weeks and months to come.
[edit] Superorganism additions
Looks really good, Nice to see some references added to that one too! The Section on social superorganisms looks especially good; nice touch adding in the parts about the semi-metaphorical nature there. I think if someone can find a cite for it the wikipedia can qualify as an example of the united interests form of a superorganism. I am also looking into adding some stuff about the Adam Smith concept of the "invisible hand" of free market economics: just look at the rise of the hybrid car for that. Some people demand higher gas milage, some people want to protect the environment, some people want to do both without loosing engine power, and we end up with all three in one car. We can have our cake and get good gas milage too ;) Keep up the good work!--Scorpion451 rant 04:33, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
