[edit] Gunslinger Girl revert
Hi, you reverted the article due to broken kanji instead of just fixing it, when there were other changes to the article. Please check for that kind of stuff before reverting, thanks. --Wirbelwind 17:54, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've already notified the editor who broke the kanji in order for him to reapply his changes, but there is no reason to gp complaining to me. --TheFarix (Talk) 18:06, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
I already did it, and instead of reverting it, you could have just copy-pasted the correct kanji from a previous edit and save it like I just did.... --Wirbelwind 18:07, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] GSG Page
Dude, did you forget the page? I made the last 4-5 posts in the discussion. What? Need to take over the article and do everything myself? I think not! Colonel Marksman 05:50, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- I also have several screenshots (without wording), but I still have no clue how to work with images! One the first things I wanted to do when I got here months ago was upload images!
- Also, when the image loader asked me "what image is this?" and later told me, "this image will be deleted in a week if you don't identify this", I couldn't figure out how to label it. In addition, how do I label it as a "screenshot"? Didn't see any option of the like there. Would you know? (Reply on my talk page please) Colonel Marksman 15:51, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info! Nobody told me about any tags for pictures. Colonel Marksman 19:10, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Sorry about the revert on Death Note
No problem. Honest mistake. I did change the tense and those in one edit, making it harder to revert without changing those back too, and it's not like it's big deal to change the minor wording again. ^^ Nique1287 03:43, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Vmenkov:Miracle of the Moose
Good Day,
Sorry about starting a draft of an article at a wrong URL. I have moved the draft to User:Vmenkov/Miracle of the Moose which I suppose is a reasonable place to keep it until I am ready to move it into the main space. Vmenkov 09:28, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- Main space? Google does not come up with anything from "Vmenkov" and "moose". Is there any relevance to the article?
[edit] Your recent RFCU
You recently compiled and listed a case at requests for checkuser. A checkuser or clerk has requested you supply one or more diffs to justify the use of the checkuser procedure in the case, in accordance with the procedures listed in the table at the top of the requests for checkuser page. For an outcome to be achieved, we require that you provide these diffs as soon as possible. This has been implemented to reduce difficulties for checkusers, and is essential for your case to be processed. A link to your recently-created case which has this information missing is here. Thanks for your co-operation. Daniel.Bryant [ T · C ] 21:20, 10 November 2006 (UTC), checkuser clerk.
[edit] Medical school at Salerno
If the reference is to be believed, this isn't strictly a copyvio, since it would suggest what that site holds is a text dump of an entire book, published in the US in 1911, which would make it public domain. I do still believe that it's not appropriate to dump a chapter out of a book on Wikipedia, though. Chris talk back 18:46, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- True, I overlooked the 75 (or so) year limitation. What would be used instead? {{db-reason}}?
[edit] Field Lacrosse
I think you meant that {{db}} for the Field Lacrosse page, not the real Lacrosse page, so, I took it out. Katalaveno 19:02, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- That is correct. I went back to fix it but you had already gotten there before me. Sorry for the inconvenience.

[edit] Stefan Ackerie
I've added some notes on why Stefan Ackerie is notable to the talk page for that article. I thought I should post here and get your thoughts rather than removing the notability tag myself. What do you think? FiggyBee 09:08, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] removed anime styled "example" photos
Just wondering. What's the point of them. I think they kind of detract from the credibility of the article. Streetsabre 20:13, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- If you have the edit toolbar shown (it is by default), clicking on the image icon gives you [[Image:Example.jpg]]. It's not that it's significant, it's just the default example code.

There is some confusion with the Moosejaw.com article. Could you possibly help out some with the article, since you marked it for CSD? [edit] Depleted uranium (new refs)
Please look at the reference format: the original Depleted uranium has raw inline URLs, while Depleted uranium (new refs) has new <ref>...</ref> format references. There are two problems: First, some people think that a banned user created the new version with the expanded references in the new format, but that doesn't seem to be the case; second, some of the expansions are controversial and will need to be folded in. [edit] Unsigned posts
I did leave a request on the userpage of the individual who asked all those questions. Sorry if it seem to clutter the reference desk, but please note that it takes a certain amount of time and effort to search through the history file and find who posted an anonymous question and then to note on the reference desk whose question it was, and it also serves to let those who answer questions know that an individual may be posting a huge number of random questions just to see editors run in circles answering them, and that editors may choose to ignore questions when someone posts a great many anonymously at the same time. If you know a short cut which more quickly annotates who the anonymous editor was, please let me know. It takes me longer to find who posted the question and to note that on the reference desk than it takes someone to ask a lot of possible frivolous questions and waste the time of those willing to spend their spend their free time answering questions people really need or want answers to. Thanks. Edison 06:32, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- I don't mean the {{unsigned}} tags, I meant the "Please sign your...." messages. The unsigned tags are nice, and I put them there to whenever I get a chance.
- Your userpage says you program the 8086. That was current decades ago when I studied electrical engineering. Right up there with the PDP-8 computer. And the only way I have found to see who posted anonymously is to look back through the history file. Do you know ashortcut? Regards.Edison 06:37, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I'm studying electrical now, and we learn with the HC12 and 8086 still. And no, there really isn't a shortcut. However, you should be able to tell from the history text being black instead of grey (commented) when it's a new section heading, which helps in speeding things up. If they don't create a new section though, then you do have to wade through.
- I see that someone added a troll warning after I identified the anonymous poster. That was my intent, but I wasn't sure whether a troll warning violated "assume good faith." Like maybe the individual just got very curious all of a sudden about a great many different wierd questions. The PDP-8 was fun to program. You could do assembly language with its 12 bit words and indirect addressing. You could run Fortran (a subset of Fortran 2) on a PDP-8 with 4K of memory. (no tape or hard drive)The source code was prepared on punched paper tape with a Teletype terminal. The compiler tape was fed into the computer followed by the source code, and the computer punched a tape which was fed back in, as best I recall, after you fed in a tape with a linking loader or some such. A single board computer such as the 8086 was amazing after that. Edison 15:24, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deprod Absent Referent
Hi, in accordance with WP:WPPDP, I have removed the {{prod}} tag from [[Absent referent]], which you proposed for deletion, because I feel that this article should not be deleted from Wikipedia. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still feel the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! -- Bhuston 03:25, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

- First, who are you? Your first edit on this account is my user page. I can only assume you're User:71.86.217.66 (Contrib). If so, what you added is here, which is a card game, and not a computer and video game. Furthermore, half of that paragraph you added is what would be considered as WP:CRUFT. Then, if you look at this, you copy-pasted that exact paragraph into another section of the article. Last, see WP:NOT#BATTLEGROUND.
[edit] Katakana in signature
I couldn't help but notice that the katakana in your signature is a bit off. You don't need a tenten on the u to make a w- combo. A normal u and then a small i (or e or o) is what you'd need.
I apologize for the lack of actual kana... stupid school computers...

- Well, I had it romanized another way before, but this is the official romaji used in the Japanese version of Kiddy Grade. This is shown also in my Kiddy Grade Conclusion book. To be honest, I'm not sure why they use ト and not ド.
[edit] Artefact(metal)
Hi, Wirbelwind... I would like to have very clear indications as to how I can improve my article on this french metal group, since I notice you have come to visit us :-) I would very much like to avoid suppression, as I am now working, as a musicologist (I am a doctor in musicology, name Isabelle Servant))on young metal groups in France (but very much noticeable, as I think Artefact is, with its two albums...) Did you have the time to judge fairly their music? if so, then you are very dedicated, thank you But I must say I am quite surprised you never wrote anything on the talk page, which is the first thing wikipedians are supposed to do when they disapprove of anything this talk page on Artefact(band) is here : http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Artefact_%28band%29&action=edit By any means, show me any page where a fair debate can take place, thank you and read you soon I hope--Ordocello 10:28, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

OK well, no need to any discussion, as you consider yourself sufficiently important to avoid to answer to Intouchables. Have a good night, then :-) --Ordocello 22:07, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Try being more patient, as I was typing on the talk page. I'm not a robot, so it takes me time to look things up to link as well, since you specifically asked for "very clear indications".

[edit] Honey and Clover trivia
Hi, i just write the trivia for honey and clover :
"shinobu and kaouru's father is created based on the image of Akio Morita, who is the founder of Sony Corporation. you can see that after morita's father company is being bought by foreigner, there is a scene where Shinobu and Kaoru saw the first generation walkman that showed in one of the stores and said that this was their farther creation."
and can you explain me, why you reverted it with unsourced trivia ?
Kenoza 20:51, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well, where did that statement come from? Is it original research or speculation? Can you cite a notable publication that claim it?
[edit] Toomuchtrivia tags
Many of the tags were added to pages that had only three or four trivia notes. I'm sorry I did not have the time to look over and review each one individually, but I believed, as I was right, that other editors such as yourselves would reinstate if the tag did indeed make sense. However, when this ip address had more than a hundred edits all with the same tag, and all within a couple of minutes of each other, how can it be anything but disruptive. I'm not saying they were all out of place, but a good number were.TheGreenFaerae 23:34, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not criticizing your moves or telling you to revert it all, I'm just showing you the page to see why that template exists, and even if an ip is adding all those tags, it's still a move towards not having trivia sections, as per WP:MOS.
-
- I cannot find the word trivia mentioned in the manual of style page. The idea of removing trivia is a personal judgment held by a lot of editors, not official policy, and it is not of merit to just decide that that opinion is right and impose it on the project as a whole. Please, look at the edit history of that ip address; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/68.165.76.174 . These tags were not justified in many cases, and it seems obvious that little thought was given as to whether or not the tags were justified, as they were added to virtually every page the user viewed, and they were added on an average of one every three minutes. I'm not saying the idea of getting rid of all trivia should not be discussed, merely that until it becomes official policy, a move like this is disruptive and is borderline vandalism. If this move was of merit, the user would have signed in and stood behind the edits. the fact that it was anonymous on top of all the other issues with it makes it even more disruptive.TheGreenFaerae 00:41, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello Wirbelwind, sorry for deleting that info. on the science reference desk i am a bit of a novice at this wikipedia thing, especially the reference desk. i was trying to write a reply to a comment above the last one, but it failed, and i wanted to start again, selected all the info below the comment i was trying to write below and got rid of it :S, it is evident i need some practice, looks like its back to the sandbox for me, again sorry,

[edit] Afd tag removal etc.
You recently corrected this removal of an AfD notice. Thank you. The editor that removed that notice cut and pasted that notice into two other articles (111 Pegasus Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron and RCSCC Undaunted. These notices just link to the discussion on the originally nominated article. What should I do to correct this? Sancho (talk) 02:15, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- Oh I see you removed them.. Thank you. I left a note on the editors page, as I had decided that I was going to remove them also (you beat me too it :-) ). I invited him to re-list them properly with a link to instructions about how to do that. Sancho (talk) 02:23, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

- I have reverted those two articles as they were not listed in the AfD and will cause confusion if left. If someone wants those to be nominated for AfD, they will have to do it separately by following the instructions at WP:BUNDLE. In the future, you can revert them yourselves as long as they're unreasonable to be there. I will leave a similar message on his talk (which would also be what you should do the next time something like this happens and you revert it).

[edit] The external link is valid.
What the hell? The link is a perfectly valid YUI resource which contains information about YUI not included in the wikipedia article, therefore it is entirely relevant and does NOT go against any of the external link guidelines. Please note that the site is NOT just a discussion forum - as I mention above it has information about YUI which is not included in this article, therefore there is no reason it should be disallowed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.1.136.145 (talk) 17:11, 8 March 2007 (UTC).
- Like what? Copyright images of YUI and copyright lyrics? The website is mostly a forum that requires user registration. Links to be avoided:
- Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article.
- Links mainly intended to promote a website.
- Links to sites that require payment or registration to view the relevant content.
etc.
Then perhaps you could explain why yui-lover (which btw, is most definately against the external link guidelines) is permitted on the Japanese version of the article?
- No, because this isn't the Japanese wiki.
The rules are the same.
- No they are not. The Japanese wiki community agrees on their own. See how they don't have images on their articles in general? We don't have that here.
- And you'll hear it a lot. Just because it exists somewhere else does not make it right.
[edit] XXX vs Xxx
You certainly got a point there and at a time I did indeed consider proposing "Xxxholic". But seeing that the triple x is always used as a separately pronounced pseudo-acronym/stand-in for something and is evenly rendered in all articles listed on the XXX disambiguation page (including the Wiktionary entry), I did not see much of a point in trimming it down specifically for the manga. After all, a title starting with three identical consonants will always retain a stylized touch and this way we would at least allow for a typographic distinction between the components (kinda like we do it with eBay and iPod) without pertaining to brand management or hurting readability by much.
By the way - and this is kinda off-topic, hence I'm messaging you here - thanks for making this clear distinction between your personal preferences and what you consider best for Wikipedia. I was beginning to think I was the only one around with that philosophy, you know, with all the people around who at least to some degree appear to base their arguments in favor of stylized typography in personal fandom.
Have a good one - Cyrus XIII 12:05, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I try to keep things neutral and fair and I try to apply logic as best as I can. As for personal philosophy, I do generally support the guidelines because I understand the reasoning, but guidelines really are just that: guidelines. Cases do exist that don't fall well under the guideline, and I just feel we should keep an open mind for those.
[edit] Anna vs. Ana
Well, if I'm wrong, I apoligize. I only own the first volume, but at the end of it says "Anna" when it's talking about a new character being introduced in the next volume. I wouldn't mind seeing a scan though, so long as you're not referring to the Japanese version.--SeizureDog 05:22, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm referring to the Tokyopop version. I have volumes one and two. Hmm, you're right, the preview for Ana in volume 1 is Anna. But in volume 2, they switched back to Ana. I don't have a scanner here though, but chapter 11's title is "Ana", 12 is "Ana's House", 15 is "Ana vs Miu", and the character artwork label her as Ana as well. I guess it was a mistranslation at the end of volume 1, which I did not notice till you mentioned it. Let me see if my webcam or phone can take a good enough picture to make the text readable.
- It's also a mistake on the tokyopop website referring to her as Anna. http://www.tokyopop.com/S-1646/2.html --Squilibob 05:34, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Here you go, the back cover of volume 2 and Chapter 11's title page. These are legible enough. If you want me to scan it for whatever reason, I can do that tomorrow if you tell me ahead of time.
- My guess is that her name in Japanese was pronounced as anna, but she writes her name as Ana, which created the confusion at Tokyopop.
- It's also a mistake on the tokyopop website referring to her as Anna. http://www.tokyopop.com/S-1646/2.html --Squilibob 05:34, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fascism and Nazism as representative forms of socialism
I am sorry to bother you, but I really need some help. There is an ongoing campaign by a few editors to portray Fascism and Nazism as representative forms of socialism. As part of this effort (a debate that stretches back to 2004), there are a tiny handful of editors who revert and redirect National Socialism to Nazism. I believe a majority of editors support redirecting National Socialism to National Socialism (disambiguation). I realize we just had a poll on the Nazism page where I thought this issue was settled, but apparently the struggle is not over. Please consider voting in the new poll, or adding a comment at: Talk:Nazism#Survey:_redirecting_National_Socialism. Also consider notifying other editors with an interest in this matter. I am doing the best I can, but need assistance. Thanks.
p.s., I am a fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion--Cberlet 19:58, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jw21 spamming wiki
user Jw21 is spamming wikipedia with external links to a site. See your deletion of zen creative. Can you make him stop? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.228.164.169 (talk) 20:15, 26 March 2007 (UTC).
- Nope. I'm not an admin. But if he's still doing it, I'll report him to WP:AIV, which you can do too, really.
-
- Hello editors, I, being a long-time editor in Wikipedia, would like to discuss why I am allegedly accused of spamming. The article(s) Creative Zen and Creative Zen Vision:M had the website EpiZENter for a year, and I am not a member, nor an affilate of EpiZENter. The link had been in the article(s) before I contributed to them, and thus I am only doing my part to preserve the article(s) when the site's link is removed.
-
- If it does concern my removal of fansites, which unlike EpiZENter and other related sites, does not provide any content that may be helpful to a researcher collecting information of the product, or an user of the product. That is why I removed those links, but not sites like EpiZENter. I assert that no acts of hypocrisy has been committed. I may apologize for using the caps to demand other editors to stop advertising their own fansites.
-
- If you can learn to realize this misunderstanding, I'd be glad. I have decided to remain EpiZENter's link removed until disputes can be settled.Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience caused. --Jw21 (PenaltyKillah) 01:36, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

- You don't really have to copy-paste it here. I already replied on the Creative Zen talk page.

[edit] Environmental Impacts of Dams
Hi, this is the second time you've reverted the article on dams due to copyright violations. I have been citing my sources. The World Commission on Dams is not a primary source of information it a compilation of different information from many different sources. If you could please tell me why you keep saying it violated copyright I would really appreciate it. Thanks. --Rf707 22:48, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Because it's copy-pasted from a site.
-
- The piece I've written contains data and information (ie. 60% of the world's rivers are affected by dams). I have taken this data from a source, a published source not just a website, and used it to write a piece on a page where hardly anything else has been attributed to a source. I have not just copied two paragraphs out of my source and then pasted them into the wikipedia page on dams. It is not a copyright violation if you cite your source. Furthermore (and this is taken directlty from wikipedia's attribution page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Attribution)
-
-
- Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a publisher of original thought. The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is whether material is attributable to a reliable published source, not whether it is true. Wikipedia is not the place to publish your opinions, experiences, or arguments.
-
-
- Therefore, I cannot synthesize my own thoughts on the data and information I've used from my source. I hope I explained myself clearly and I still don't understand what your problem is. If there is some other reason please let me know or I am going to edit the dam article again and add my piece.--Rf707 18:50, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- Because I searched on google for three snippets from the information you added and 2 of those came back with exact matches. See this google result for example, which pretty clearly fits WP:COPYVIO.

[edit] Removal of Third party support
Wirbelwind, you have removed the third part support section from Zen Creative without discussing it first. There has been a long discussion about this at Jw21. The issue has been discussed and agreed. I will wait for your comment before uploading it again. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.138.8.1 (talk) 07:17, 29 March 2007 (UTC).
- Agreement by you and Jw21 really isn't much. Try getting consensus at the article's talk page. If you don't add a discussion for it by the time I get home tomorrow, I'll add it.

- Thanks for the advice. What to do if I don't get a reply. How long should I wait? 89.138.8.1 08:44, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

A while ago you where helping me on the Reference Desk try to find the name of a song I had had heard (Wikipedia:Reference desk/Archives/Entertainment/2007 April 25). I was grateful for your help. In the odd event that you were wondering, though, I found the song that was bugging me so: Call on Me (Eric Prydz song). Cheers! zafiroblue05 | Talk 05:57, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. [edit] Kimchi
I noticed you had been involved in the issue of the Chinese cabbage link on the kimchi page. One editor feels it is best to remove this link and replace it with a redirect; so far all the other editors have felt that it is better to link per the MOS. We've tried to get a reflection of the current consensus here: Talk:Kimchi#Straw_Poll_on_Baechu. Not sure if you're still interested or not, but perhaps you could take a minute and participate as well? —LactoseTIT 12:46, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] MUD?
On the Ref Desk, you were answering a question on Tim Tams in which answer you mentioned having been involved with a MUD. What is a MUD? Thanks Bielle 23:45, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Think World of Warcraft or EverQuest. Now thing smaller amounts of people. And text based. There! See MUD.
-
- My ignorance is no doubt appalling, but the only "Discworld" I knew about is in Terry Pratchett's science fantasy novels, and I couldn't remember anything about "MUD" in them. Now that you have expanded your answer, and I have been to the article [[MUD}}, I am a little the wiser. I don't know why it didn't occur to me just to check for "MUD" in Wikipedia; it really does have an article on almost everything. Thank you. Bielle 01:40, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- No problem. The MUD is old, around 13 years. Terry Pratchett had even visited there before, according to the people who run it. And he turns a blind eye to it also, so they aren't officially endorsed, but won't be sued either.

can you speak japanese very well? Imuzak (talk) 07:58, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- Nope. I estimate that I can understand (listening/reading) about 20%. I'm not Japanese, but part of my reading comprehension comes from the fact that I am a native speaker of Chinese, and the other parts from what I absorbed or learned.
