[edit] Winzenburg
Winzenburg is chiefly known for its ruined medieval castle, Burg Winzenburg, standing on a spur of the Sackwald.
[edit] Westerberg
[edit] Klump
[edit] Schildhorst
The present population is about 45. The place is surrounded by forests which are very popular with walkers in the summer and skiers in the winter. There is a bus connection to the railway station at Freden.
The place was of greater significance in the 18th and 19th century thanks to the glassworks which then operated there, manufacturing, among other things, white glass. The abundance of the necessary natural resources - water, timber and minerals - made the site particularly suitable for glass manufacture. In the 20th century however the industry vanished, and with it the prosperity of Schildhorst: all that remains is a sawmill, a cheesemaker's and a few traces of the glassworks.
