Winthrop IS 232 is an Intermediate School located in the East Flatbush, Brooklyn section of New York. It is part of District 18 of the New York City Board of Education. The grade levels run from 6 to 8. It has been the target of a number of programs aimed at improving the academic standards of the school.
It is among the schools targeted for the Computers for Youths program that provides students with computers for use in the home as a family learning center. While maintaining a medical science program with SUNY Downstate Medical Center for its seniors(noted on school's web site), it has also started a career mentorship program with Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center; Brooklyn for its 7th grade students.
Despite these programs aimed at improving the school, for a second year it has been identified by the New York State Education Department as a "School in Need of Improvement" because of the No Child Left Behind Act. As noted by the New York City Board of Education it is a Title I School in Restructuring(year #2).
