Wintermoon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wintermoon is a folk music festival held in Cameron's Pocket, a suburb of the small, country town of Calen in Queensland, Australia. It began in 1997 as a small gathering of local musicians and has grown to become a major attraction in the Australian music scene, with a crowd of 7000 in 2006.
Wintermoon is held on the May long weekend, running from Friday afternoon through to monday afternoon. There is also a smaller offshoot, the Wintermoon Springfest, held in spring.
Wintermoon relies heavily on volunteers, with over 200 assisting in 2006. Many people choose to camp for the duration of the festival, while day and weekend tickets are available for others. Alongside the performances there are markets, workshops and food stalls, including vegetarian fare provided by a band of Hare Krishnas.
