Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute is a public high school in Toronto, specifically located in Scarborough. Although the language of instruction is English, over half of the students do not use English as their primary language, and over thirty percent have resided in Canada less than five years[1]. As of spring 2005 there are 558 male students and 506 female students of various ethnicities.

Churchill is host to many special events such as the Churchill Cheer, a December event where money is raised for charities, and the much anticipated Cultural Connections Week[2]. The school has a lot of extra curricular activities and participates with the TDSB night school program. Churchill has a lot of hands-on and computer courses as well from Auto Shop, Wood Shop, Electronics, Machine Shop, Computer Electronics, Computer Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, etc...

Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute opened in 1954. The school was named after the British Prime Minister during the Second World War, Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, but the school's name does not have a Sir, but is simply Winston Churchill C.I. The school started off with 23 classrooms and an enrolment of 690 students. As of 2004, Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute has 75+ classrooms and an enrolment of 1200 students.

[edit] Sports and Clubs
Winston Churchill C.I. has a wide variety of sports and clubs. Student Activities Council, CBC (Churchill Bulldog Council) are among the student clubs. There are also many sports teams at Churchill such as Basketball, Soccer, Flag Football, Ice Hockey, Baseball, Ultimate Frisbee, Rugby, Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton, and many others.

The school colours are mainly purple and white, but black is sometimes added. The Churchill mascot is the Winston Churchill Bulldogs. The school has a big sign in the upper gym saying Welcome to Bulldog County.

- On October 30, 1985, a section of Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute caught fire during the night. The cost to repair the damages was $250,000 CAN.
- More than 50% of the enrolment at Churchill is of South Asian descent (Sri Lankan/Tamil, Indian, Pakistani, Bengali).
- Mascot for the school is The Winston Churchill Bulldogs.
- Most people refer to the school as WCCI or more commonly Churchill for short form.
- On September 11, 2007, a 16 year-old was fatally stabbed in an alley behind the school.[3]
