Winnipeg Route 20

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Route 20 (known locally as Lagimodiere Blvd. or Lag (lazh) is a city route in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It is the portion of Highway 59 within Winnipeg.

At about 16.7 km (10.5 miles), it is one of the longest roads in the city, passing through the eastern end of St. Boniface before becoming the unofficial boundary between Elmwood/East Kildonan, and Peguis/Transcona. The official boundary between these communities is Panet Road, which served as the original Highway 59 prior to the construction of Lagimodiere Blvd. (Route 20) in the 1960's.

Route 20 maintains expressway standards through Winnipeg, generally as a 4-lane divided route, and has an 80 km/h (50 mph) speed limit for the most part, except for a brief section in the north end at Route 37/Regent Ave. where the speed limit drops to 70 km/h (45 mph). The most notable landmark that the route passes by is the Royal Canadian Mint. The route also passes by Kilcona Park.
