Winnetonka High School or simply "Tonka", is a high school in the North Kansas City School District.
The school is located at 5815 NE 48 Street in Kansas City North, Missouri. Winnetonka opened in 1971, originally built to hold 2,000 students, it now has just short of 1,700. Primarily crowding at the other 2 high schools (Oak Park & Northtowne) prompted the opening of Staley High School, which will cut down on overcrowding in these schools by shifting some of students to Staley, as well as a few Tonka students to Northtowne.
Tonka's mascot is the griffin (half-eagle and half-lion), and the colors for the school are cardinal red and gold.
The school's current principal is Mr. Matt Lindsey. The School motto is:
"Together ... nurturing the pursuit of ethical and intellectual living at the highest levels"
