Winnersh railway station is a railway station serving Winnersh, Berkshire, England, located between Reading and Wokingham. The station, and the majority of trains calling there, are operated by South West Trains. It is situated on the London Waterloo to Reading line.

[edit] History

The station opened on 1 January 1910 as 'Sindlesham and Hurst Halt'. It served both villages before the more recent expansion of today's Winnersh. The name 'Winnersh Halt' was applied in 1930. In 1987, the wooden station buildings on the platforms were replaced by new ones repositioned up at bridge level, the bridge carrying the B3030. In 2002, the London-bound platform was extended to finally accommodate eight-car Reading-Waterloo trains, coinciding with Class 458s appearing on the service. Until this time, in the twilight years of the elderly slam-door stock that they replaced, passengers wishing to leave the train at Winnersh were advised to move down the train in order to alight.

[edit] Services

South West Trains operate services between London Waterloo and Reading every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday, and every 60 minutes on Sundays.

First Great Western also provide a service of one train per day in each direction on the North Downs Line from Gatwick Airport and Reading primarily to serve students of the nearby Forest School (Winnersh)
