Wink is a city in Winkler County, Texas, United States. The population was 1290 at the 2007 census.

Wink was the hometown of singer and songwriter Roy Orbison, although he was born in Vernon, Texas.

Wink is located at 31°45′15″N, 103°9′20″W (31.754119, -103.155647)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 square miles (3.0 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[1] of 2007, there were 1290 people, 454 households, and 367 families residing in the city. The population density was 609.1 people per square mile (311.3/km²). There were 454 housing units at an average density of 384.8/sq mi (148.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 85.64% White, 0.87% African American, 0.133% Native American, 10.88% from other races, and 2.29% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 48.07% of the population.

There were 454 households out of which 40.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.1% were non-families. 12.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 4.23.

In the city the population was spread out with 31.8% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 84.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $38,068, and the median income for a family was $44,750. Males had a median income of $32,266 versus $20,526 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,888. About 10.0% of families and 14.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.6% of those under age 18 and 20.8% of those age 65 or over.

According to the NOAA's National Weather Service, Wink is often one of the hottest locations in Texas as well as in the United States for daily maximum shade tempratures. The climate here is much drier than in further east in the state. Most extreme readings occur in the spring. From mid-June onward the hottest tempatures usually occur in the desert Southwest in the states of Calfornia, Nevada or Arizona.
