Winfield is a city in Henry County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,131 at the 2000 census.

Winfield is located at 41°7′37″N, 91°26′15″W (41.127072, -91.437392)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square miles (2.7 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,131 people, 437 households, and 280 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,089.7 people per square mile (419.9/km²). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 453.8/sq mi (174.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.97% White, 0.35% African American, 0.35% Asian, 0.80% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.50% of the population.

There were 437 households out of which 35.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% were non-families. 32.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.18.

In the city the population was spread out with 29.8% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 19.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 91.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $32,500, and the median income for a family was $44,500. Males had a median income of $32,125 versus $23,393 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,949. About 11.2% of families and 12.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.0% of those under age 18 and 11.8% of those age 65 or over.

The travel writer Bill Bryson in his book The Lost Continent visits Winfield while retracing his childhood family holidays. His grandparents had lived there.
